Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

A sad way to handle layoffs

It's sad that senior management would handle lay offs this way. They don't seem to recognize that people talk and information leaks out. They've completely lost control of the conversation and fostered an atmosphere of dread that will have an impact long after the last person walks out the door.

No one is so naive to question why companies lay off staff and close offices, but rip the damned band aid off already and have a bit more respect for your workforce.

The OP ( @W8ljdCf-xna ) couldn’t have said it better. If layoffs have to be done, they should be done with dignity and with respect towards the workers.

Some of these managers (now know as “leads”) don’t seem to have any empathy. They are power hungry and take delight in layoffs. Never transparent. So much for TR “trust principles” 😡

we'd know if it were done. and thats the worst part. we're not going to know its done until someone sits us in a room one morning and tells us if we're in or out. and even then we'll only know if it's us. look at rochester. shut down an entire building without a peep to the rest of the company. the people in rochester know more about what's happening than the people at the five "strategic locations"

It does not expire much confidence for the remaining employees that TR leadership has handled this in such a clumsy, heartless and ham handed manner

Does anyone even know if it's done in Eagan, or could I come into work tomorrow with a meeting notice? I can't work like this. Apparently my director wasn't even aware of it until today, or was being dodgy. If not aware, how are the people even chosen? Did they use a dart board? 6 people on my group are gone I think, and yesterday I was thinking "oh wow with Rochester gone we have to hire more people to take on that stuff since some things in my group are done there". Probably just low cost resources that constantly break production every month that I have to fix now, people who they churn through since we're all just replaceble parts. I've given so many years to this company, structured my life around it, and they are just trying to hide their shame and not be upfront about what is happening. This is so they can have more cash to buy some other company.

Even more damning is the fact they started blocking this site from network access.
