I had a friend in sales who won Best of IBM this year. The immediate next quarter they tripled his quota. He saw the writing on the wall and left for a job with a growing software firm just about a month ago. Told me that his entire former team just got the notice. This is how they treat Best of IBM people, let alone the average person.

That's messed up man, I know where you are coming from but still, messed up...

Every day I get up and go out into the marketplace with the specific objective of making people regret buying or suggesting IBM.

W23l. Let me say I’m very sorry to hear IBM has pursued this strategy with you, BUT remember this. The current exec management team cares NOTHING and I mean NOTHING about you, your family, or their community!!! It’s all about share holder value, but more importantly executive bonuses. All of the Exec’s know this strategy is damaging IBM, but they don’t care. They could have pursued much less damaging terms (reduced pay for reduced work, health benefits at Cobra prices for retirees instead of a “profit center” for health benefits, asking legacy employees to share in the restructuring of IBM to spread the pain vs just nuking folks, etc etc etc) BUT they didn’t. REMEMBER THIS. The current exec management team has a legacy of “I got mine, s---s to be you” stamped on them, and that stink will not wash off. All of their peers, neighbors, and colleagues know that they are pariahs and essentially scum bags. That’s a hell of a legacy that they will have to live with, and have stamped on their tomb stone. BUT I digress So here is my little story to give you some hope. I was nuked in the Nov class of 2016 and got the same deal (90 days plus 30 days severance) Their excuse was your skills are not aligned with the future of IBM. Kinda ironic in that they posted my exact job 45 days into my 90 day window. My managers statement sums up the current state of IBM. (they honestly stated “ HR was not suppose to post that until you left”. Skills my a-- they just wanted a 60 cents on the dollar employee. So Nov came and out the door I went. Had 6 offers from the IBM channel partners and IBM competitors (google and amazon). HUM how are those skills working out for you IBM??? I have honestly been quite happy since I left IBM. My current employer truly appreciates my efforts, and continually asks “why did IBM let you go” I get my pension from Blue every month!!! (just made the old plan) PLUS got a job that pays 150% of what Blue was paying me. SO yes it hurts when Blue nukes you, BUT there is the other side of the rainbow, and IBM is creating it, due to their complete mis-reading of their current employee workforce skills. Take those skills and prosper. IBM doesn’t see them, or value them BUT everyone else out there in the booming economy does see them, and value them. Go forth and prosper!!! You will find the grass is much greener on the other side. As an aside. Watson understood that his employees made him and his company successful. He embraced his employees and they embraced him back. As such both sides won. The current management has forgotten that lesson and it is biting them without mercy. BUT they can seek comfort in the statement “I got mine s---s to be you”. I’m sure when they look in the mirror every morning, and see that stamped on their forehead, they know it’s going to be a long cold retirement

AS I said. Never look back, never move sideways, but continue to march forward. You have the skills, and the economy is begging for them. Take advantage. Best of luck!!!

Sorry to hear of your layoff. I was laid off in Feb of this year and got two weeks notice and 30 days severance. Not even fair compared to the market place average. Know you will be in a better place shortly. IBM is a mean and nasty place to work.

The 90-day zombie period is very generous. My IBM department was given less than three weeks from the layoff notification to our final day.

Best of luck in the future. We drank a lot of Kool-Aid at IBM but from personal experience I was much happier after leaving Big Blue.

Soory to hear, but IBM Sales folks need to open their eyes... IBM is moving all customers to the Cloud and want to use Digital Sales for that... so really no need for humans anymore. It is all online, just provide your credit card number and you are set...
