Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

Gig econonomy

a labor market characterized by the prevalence of short-term contracts or freelance work as opposed to permanent jobs.

Continue to reducing cost of FTE though migration to low cost locations

If your a FTE in the UK or North America your dommed, unless your a executive

Save time by not reading the fake news in the webcast and investor bulletins. It's all pure wank by a desperate company to save it's skin.

There is no link because the slides were not published , hell the earnings report and Investor meeting wasn't sent to the employee's this time.

I knew because I follow the stock and have screen prints of some of the slides.

Does anyone have a link to ML's statement about gig economy? He seemed to say we were going in the other direction - cutting the use of third parties.

Clients want cheap. Cheap and heavy contractual penalties keeps a client happy.

They say they want quality, but not true quality. "Working" is the only quality they want.

The only time cheap labour is a problem is when DXC are charging a premium price and skimping on the ingredients to maximise profit.

Anyway, gig economy - I did hear of a plan a while back to basically offload employees to an agency then for DXC to use that agency to provide staff on an as and when basis. The staff would be self employed, contracted to the agency.

So, DXC need a DBA to fix a problem, call up agency, get DBA. Problem fixed in 5 hours, DXC pay 5 hours to the agency, DBA gets 5 hours pay. See you next time we have a database problem Mr DBA, might be a month. Hope you and your family haven't starved to death in the meantime.

You don't get paid holiday, you don't get sick pay, you don't get pension (401k).

Of course this practice is widespread outside of the IT world. Its increasingly the way things are going, with people trying to hold down dozens of small rubbish jobs to get a consistent 40 hour working week.

But this is just another example of profit taking by companies whilst scr3wing the employee.

Your profits are only soaring DXC because that's our money you are stealing.

A client of DXC!! You have deepest sympathies. You should start looking for that new job right now.

As a client I want to know the key people executing the digital transformation have the skills for the project to be successful (on time and on budget).

If DXC offer the gig economy and faceless offshore workers, then I have doubts about the skills being used - true, I can trust the brand so that if it is fixed price they will eventually deliver, but if it is late and problematic then I will have lost my job for choosing DXC and the cost on my companies side will have increased substantially, and the saving will be pushed out risking the ROI on the project.

The other choice is companies with a permanent workforce locally based, working side by side with my companies team - it may cost 20% more, however the outcome is more positive, I keep my job and project ROI is more likely.

Yesterday ML said

It's two-fold. One, yes, we are reducing some of our external labor spend and using internal resources because it is less expensive to do that, that is point one. Point two, the digital resources or digital skills are certainly harder to come by on a global basis, so what we've put in place is a dedicated hiring machine, number one; number two, we are beginning to hire a head of future demand

And today they say Gig economy and reduce FTE to low cost locations.
