Thread regarding Refinitiv layoffs

Management buzzword bingo

10 points for each of these management tropes in any Hub or Townhall. Try the latest HR (sorry, "People") non-announcement for practice:

  • use of "excited" to describe announcing an org chart no one cares about

  • appeal to higher authority (e.g., name checking DC, a famous client, or innovative company)

  • repeat of "Bold Open Focused"

  • likening Refinitiv to "a startup with revenue of $6bn"

  • use of "agile", "nimble", "inclusive" or "challenging" (score 10 points for each occurrence)

  • "Insights" offered by someone with no recent work experience outside TR

Bonus 50 points:

  • Unironic use of "value creation" ("driving revenue" also acceptable)

Post your scores.

"High Performance Culture"

Crash the company on to the rocks of private equity (the undisputed measure of poor senior management performance), immediately save your own jobs, make everyone Pledge allegiance right before firing them, needily refer to yourselves as executives and leaders to reassure yourselves despite everything, and give yourselves another lavish company-paid vacation while the rest of the company is being trashed. Finally, when you've taken everything you can including the livelihoods and morale of thousands to pay for your reckless mistakes, incompetence, indecision and sense of entitlement, lecture the remaining troops on "high performance"!

This won't end well.

"ageing propositions" describes the "ELT" too.

(Quote marks required on ELT as these are junior management material elsewhere, at best)

I see they have again awarded themselves an all-expenses paid holiday for their dismal performance. One of them even had the affront to make a video where she couldn't help boasting she'd been on fifteen of these boondoggles. Fifteen! Yet for years provided nothing but "ageing propositions" and growth below the annual price rise.

The age of data, and we missed every opportunity with these losers at the helm.

Poor performance. Excessive reward. Embarrassing social media self-aggrandisement and endless patronising messages and videos. Blackstone asked for a Leadershift, but these "leaders" didn't shift. They just held a big back-slapping meeting instead. And then carried on doing the exact same old things that led us to being a PE target.

They are simple and greedy failures. Clients laugh at them and staff despise them. Saying buzzwords all the time doesn't make the organisation shift. Holding meetings, shuffling their beloved orgcharts and taking company-paid vacations doesn't make the organisation shift.

Shifting the ELT would.

Must be some points for Cloud, AI and Machine Learning?

The management seem to try to sound relevant by attaching the company to a new buzzword each year in the hope it will magically transform the same ageing propositions into something fresh, cool and relevant.

Previous buzzword contenders in different years:

Big Data! Risk! Fintech! Regulation! Supply Chain! Platform!

And every year they succeed in remaining as fresh, cool and relevant as your dad dancing.

How about "DELIGHT OUR CUSTOMERS". I think customers just want value for money for product they can use as soon as they buy the product...

Think about it, as a client, do you want to be "delighted" when you buy something or do you feel the term is somewhat flowery?

Need to add Leadershit to this. They are all at it. Doubtless going to make all the minions write their own steaming Leadershit soon too. The stinking 2019 version of the infamous 2018 "Pledge". Coming soon to a cheap offsite near you.

Ironic that the very same dull-witted lifers who originally created these towers of bureaucracy (always "so excited" with their new org charts) are now crowing about becoming "agile" by firing 20 percent of the dysfunctional teams they personally created, while proudly calling this their Leadershit.

The only way to make a real Leadershit would be to "dump" all those in charge #bingo

A 6 billion dollar startup...rubbish. The people are the company and unfortunately most of them are institutionalised in Reuters or Thomson culture. It is shocking to witness how the morale of staff has sunk during the past 15 years where they have a defeatist attitude towards Bloomberg and FactSet....even dare I say it S&P.

To also see how TR destroyed companies after they acquired them by being so negligent is painful. Lipper, Multex, Starmine, the list goes on.

Lol

As with the wider Refinitiv organisation, we now need to transition to a nimbler function with more agile and creative ways of working. To be clear, our structure and teams will continue to evolve and changes will be made to ensure we are best positioned for value creation.

We’re in a new environment which is both exciting and challenging, but the ability to flex and adapt will be invaluable moving forward.

We are at the crossroad of innovation and are uniquely positioned to serve our customers who depend on us in more ways than we realize. I spoke to a CEO of a global bank (i.e. Dave down Slug and Lettuce) last week and felt privileged to know about the impact our organization is making on the markets and communities we serve
