@VtQpl7j-2ezs Indians have talent of smooching. Every companies I worked for they all are doing that like the pros. They brought goodies, though small in value, to the boss or team. They remember boss's important dates like birthday or anniversary. They have superficial knowledge of every thing and they are not afraid to throw that out in a meeting to impress the boss. Bosses love jargon and new cool term they think they understand when those Indians said. That's how Leena got the top job if you look at her credentials she is just a hack. I'm very impressed with her ambition by the way. They should teach that in MBA school. How to get to C suite using smooching talent like Leena.

At least Martinez wasn't afraid to put money into the stores.

Too bad those below him took that money and wasted it rather than making a real effort to right the ship.

@1amc - To Leena's credit, she is a very wealthy "dope" as a result of her kowtowing to Eddie. Granted, she is an untalented hack and a total disgrace, however, she is laughing all the way to the bank.

Leena is a dope. She was an unqualified glorified admin when she started. She is in the #2 position as to why this company is in the state it’s in. Chief Digital Officer. Lol.

Chris B you were one of those who misled associates. You were supposed to be standing for associates instead you were serving the CEO who year after year duped us the company is going to be fine.

What you should have said to Eddie is: Hey Eddie I know you are a decent person but you are a lousy CEO. Should you give that job to someone who knows how to run a business?

AL was the first I heard of using the term "transformation". He believed in something called top grading and we were forced to follow. 20% of store management in the field had to be replaced with outside hires, to get great new ideas into our company and a complete culture would change in 5 years. Promotions from within were stopped along with relocation monies. Raises and incentives were impossible to get. Good people that knew how to get things done, that understood the work needed and could be developed into a bench were passed by. And left

That was against everything that made this a great company. AL M at least believed that people added value.

Been downhill since

The best CEO Sears had in the last 25 to 30 years was Arthur Martinez. When he held town halls with the employees it was a grand event. He created the "Softer side of Sears" campaign and it was very successful. That was around 1994 or 1995. After he left it was a revolving door of leaders whose actions led up to this sad situation. Eddie hiring Alwyn Lewis and Lou DiAmbrosio (pardon spelling) are examples of hiring leaders that did not have a proper retail background. Then, EL makes himself a CEO. What is the old saying... "a person who hires himself as a lawyer has a fool for a client"... in this case hiring yourself as a CEO follows the same and predictable outcome. How can you manage a hedge fund and a major retailer properly at the same time?

I remember camping in California and the RV next to us was a Montgomery Ward DM. He explained the demise of MW was the selling off of it's credit department. Shortly after that Sears card was spun off. Lose your revenue streams lose your profit. I'm sure there is some kick back from Citi but nothing like a house card. Lacy was a douchebag compared to the "Axe from Sax". Nothing left but to cry in our Martinis.

ccn, you are spot on. Alan Lacy was never CEO material, as his chief experience was as a tight-a-- CFO. After Arthur Martinez departed, Sears couldn't attract better candidates. All AL did was close operations down and divest assets. He was unwilling to take risks to grow the company, hence it stagnated for years under his lack of leadership.

The entire B6 suite at Hoffman mislead everyone, from store folks to most here at corporate also. Many times we questioned what was going on but if we were concerned most were told we were being "too negative"....I guess if one tells a lie often enough people will believe it. I recall even as far back as 2004 when someone asked at a town hall and questioned Alan Lacy point blank about Eddie Lampert taking over the company and he said "I am too busy running the company ... I am not aware.... "... he certainly had to know.... and Lacy started this mess when he sold out the company to EL, he dumped Sears credit (that was making a big profit) . You may blame EL, but also don't forget Alan Lacy, he sold us out.

He should have won an Oscar but in my world there is a special place in hell for someone who knowingly mislead low paid hourly wage earners for years so they would stay in jobs that he knew were going to end. Drawing on the past loyalty the company had built up to squeeze more time out of people. Somehow he's worse to me than Eddie because he too, is a paid employee.

I recall Chris B 'yucking it up' with Eddie and Leena at one of the employee town halls about 6 months ago... he really looked like he was enjoying the Sears 'Kool-aid' being passed around. Now he's leaving.... wow.... unbelievable. He should have won an Oscar or Emmy for that performance.

I thought Chris Braithwaite was the guy that was going to stick around until the bitter end since he lived and breathed Sears.

I have a feeling that Leena's next to go. How could she be a "chief member officer" when the company is fading right before our member's eyes (well, at least the few members we have left, lol)?

As for Leena, SYW is not the pot o' gold that Eddie believed it to be. If it was, they wouldn't be hiding the cold, hard numbers of its membership stats from the media and investors. Plenti was a bigger, more successful program and it went away. Who is going to want to buy a database of names where half the people on the list is no longer someone who wants to shop at Sears or Kmart, dead, nonexistent/made up or listed on there multiple times?

Does this mean we've heard the last of that annoying Sears cheerleader who keeps insisting that a miraculous turnaround is just around the corner?

He should have had trouble sleeping at night. Or trouble looking himself in the mirror. He's probably on to a better job. I doubt he suffered a crisis of conscience.

@OP - Why would he have any trouble sleeping at night? Whatever reserves of honesty, integrity, and empathy he possessed were surrendered long ago! He voluntarily debased himself to become one of Eddie's faithful and subservient lapdogs.
