Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Top post- business lesson 101 (from 5k thread)

The last poster just said

“But TR is about making money and maintaining the couple of million dollars a day we pay to the Thomson family in dividends that have risen nicely over the years.”

Are you serious dude? What on earth do you think the company is there for? It is truly scary how naive that comment is. Thomson owned the company. You owe THEM money, not the other way around!

Furthermore, both you and the company have made, and sorry to say this, uncompetitive products and choices.

So they are NOT making as much money as they should. I am very interested to know how old you are, and where you live. Please, pick up a business 101 book. It sounds like either you are very young and stupid, or a socialist.

Businesses are there to make a return for the owners and investors. If you ever started one, you would understand. Amazingly naive. You probably think its all easy.

If i was hiring manager, i would run from you

Was it Ken Thomson who died at his desk in 2006 ?

Not sure what this thread has to do with layoffs ?

Other than some angry person feeling need to start a thread to have a rant on something that’s nowt to do with layoffs.

If we don’t keep threads on topic (this is an anonymous forum on layoffs) then things will get very cluttered with people simply ranting about likes or hates for TR.

Lord Thomson is so humiliatingly dumb executives only allowed him to publicly speak once.... His father also had the foresight to block his ability to make any real decisions, as he has the IQ of a potatoe. I almost quit on the spot when he referred to Egan as “the wilderness”... Ignorant Canadian prince made me throw up in my mouth

To the person who posted, "I remember a talk that David Thomson gave a few years ago and he said he was no longer in it for the money, but to make the world a better place," thanks, this is seriously funny!! I'm laughing my b*tt off.

I remember a talk that David Thomson gave a few years ago and he said he was no longer in it for the money, but to make the world a better place.

I did wonder if it was after the 10th, 15th or 20th billion when you think like that :-)

On the subject of dividends.

Will TR now reduce the dividend paid to shareholders now turnover and profit are reduced with the sale of 55% of F&R ?

I presume the profit from TR 45% holding in Rifinitiv will appear on the Qutarely figures in some way ?

Errr If you are the next Steve Jobs or Bill Gates you certainly wouldn’t want to be working for TR or Rifinitiv. You would use your talents in your own startup company rather than feed a large Corp with your innovation and genius.

I would say you would never get rich working for someone else , but then again some of our CEO have. Anyone remember old Tom G :-)

Last poster- you sound like a spoiled child. Get over your butt hurt. You live in the real world now.

Poster before- yes i agree; it pays to take care of your employees. But when you have poor products and too many employees, and you are in a stagnant market, what can you do? TR and FR need to be way way smaller

Now I could see black and white conflict. Yes Business is made to make a money but for Software business if business owners only care about return it will kill the productivity and put the company into lack of creativity

Same goes for employee if there are too socialist it kill productivity as well. if they want to create a cool product that people need and willing to pay for they need to work together as a collective of creativity but as far as I can see now it' goes other way around and counter productive

Business want a return and employee want to nice package if you are next Steve job or next bill get in TR or Refin what you would to. if the tide not turn it will all doom as a software company
