Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

"There are plenty of jobs"

I see this kind of comment a lot, and wonder if these people have any idea what's actually going on in the media industry. Do they even work in the media industry? For starters, if this is happening at a company like Thompson Reuters, anyone with half a brain will deduce it's happening elsewhere too.

Strong corporations don't do mass layoffs when the industry is doing well. Common sense.

Next. Have they not seen all the layoffs the past 5 years? Living under a rock? Denial?

Sorry folks, there are not "Lots of jobs out there," no matter how badly you want to believe that little lie.

Some of the posts will be from the Refinitiv side of the fence. So no, not really working in the media industry. It’s the truth that there are plenty of jobs in - for example - software development. I guess that doesn’t help the original poster, but surely a single company’s decisions are not necessarily indicative of the entire economy’s behaviour.

Don’t panic!

It depends on your industry/specialization. If you're on the "risk" side of F you can move to the buy-side; you can move to the sell-side; you can move to any number of startups (depending on where you are in your career/seniority).

All of that said, I don't know anything about the media business. But, as far as I know, the Reuters media business is staying with TR -- it was never part of F&R. As far as financial services vendors though -- yes, most emphatically, there are jobs.
