Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Change

-It is probably too late.

-The health of the company is dismal.

-Being in a mall labels us as antiquated.

-Hoffman the real estate is a big money s---er. Sell and move to a tax friendly St. Into an abandoned warehouse cheap.

-The public still likes Kenmore a proprietary brand. If not I ask you why is Admiral ,a Montgomery Ward label, in HD.

The turn-around.

Raise capital by selling off as much real estate as possible. Paying down debt. All of Kmart is gone. That business model is old, and the footprint is expensive to maintain. And it competes against the better brand SEARS. Sell every nut and bolt of it. In every town and city. Sears pays a better $ per square. Then use all of the capital, minus ESLs cut, to create a new vision. Reinvent an old appliance brand name cold spot. These are still in homes today. They were built so well they are passed down to family members. Protect the service department and relabel the service vans with the Sears logo. This van is a traveling billboard, why would we ever agree to not proudly display it. DONT service any other company. Service dept should lose money. Continue to shrink in large areas if at all possible move near Walmarts. Of the stores still remaining in malls. Open the front entrance as wide as possible, reset the floors tools right, appliances left and make the isle inviting clear to the end of the building. Lure cell phone kiosks that sit outside stores in the mall lobby to re-establish themselves just inside the store entrance through cheaper rent. Time to reinvent a new tool line made soley in the US. Copy HD and Lowe's in how the tool is colored. Craftsman red and black is dinosaur colors. LnG is the gift that keeps giving. It's about the blade after the sale. People love their lawn tractors. And they love the pitch WE come to your house to repair and maintain. Find a way to give great service at the home for Walmart prices. Then pitch the hell out of it. Bring electronics back. With no warranty by the service department. Don't have as many SKUs but the SKUs they do have let them be as low priced as on line.

Rural America is serviced by SHOS. Keep them healthy. Listen to the owners, they of all affiliated actually have skin in the game. Give them more of the .com pie. Give them video tutorials on simple small engine repair. SHOUT that they are the only retailer for miles around that offer a lease to own on product that is the least predatory loan. Through the WNLI and .com and floor a symbiotic relationship should exist that supports Metro Sears-Sears.com-Hometown all operating in partnership as one. All advertising is the same. Metro area tv acts as a hub out from 70 miles. It reaches metro Sears, and SHOS. Take advantage of that through double tagging. Dicker on TV ads. TV though strong is not the same as just 8 years ago. My guess is that you rent floor space to brands... Right... Tap them for advertising too. A feature of a brand washer and dryer set on the front top page would be very impactful. With a great price splash. We don't have to kill our competitors in price by much. Single dollars probably. Too much discount and we may appear inferior.

-keep washers and dryers in stock in all locations including one or two branded Never opp though.

-Ugh, I know this is the holy Grail but "member" come on Mr. Lampert stop it. It sounds p--nographic. Customers don't like to be "owned". Let alone be called a weird name.

-The retireries... Time to get off your sofa and stop watching the view. Come back to work PARTTIME. We need YOU! Quite sitting around biteing you finger nails watching the stock drop.

-Leadership lead and tell Mr. Lampert when he's wrong.

Turn around... Naw...so many of my customers beg for the leadership to figure it out and bring back what was once. Turn around... Maybe π.

The hammer.

Check the financials over the last few years, they have been writing off the goodwill of the sears, kenmore, diehard name each quarter. This means that the value of the name has been getting less and less each year. This may have been the plan for Eddie to some day buy the names at a value price but his plan has backfired and now SHC is out of cash and the brand is tarnished and the reputation is ruined and worth pennies on the dollar.

Dear OP. It was ALWAYS a real estate play, never a retail play. ALWAYS.

There was NEVER any sort of "transformation" aside from converting Sears and Kmart assets into Seritage and ESL assets.

The ideas you mention have all been tried at one time or another.

Hang it up. The fat lady sang.....

Admiral was not a Montgomery Ward brand. In fact, Admiral radios, TVs and appliances were sold at a lot of independent mom and pop shops, although Admiral was sold at M-W as well. Admiral was a standalone company before it was absorbed by Norge. Norge was then acquired by Maytag, which in of itself was absorbed by Whirlpool roughly over a decade ago, and so Admiral now exists as a budget brand along with Whirlpool's Amana (formerly owned by Maytag; Raytheon before then, and originally a standalone company founded by the Amana Amish colony), Roper (was once a standalone company before being acquired by Whirlpool) and Estate brands.

Signature was Montgomery Ward's "Kenmore", but I haven't seen a Signature branded appliance since the '80s. After that time, M-W decided to label their in house appliances simply "Montgomery Ward" and towards the end (mid-late '90s), they just sold brand name appliances.

Many good ideas that would cost billions to implement. You also forgot about the antiquated IT structure and the .com being a mess to shop on as well as third party vendors who charge too much and then dont service any complaints which reflects on Sears. Too little Too late. No money to do anything but shut it all down.
