Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Is it worth taking a software developer position as a consultant than being a SOC validation eng?

I recently received a job offer as a software consultant (30k less pay than current) and wanted to consider if it is worth leaving a full time position with Intel considering the work levels, stress, competition, growth, politics etc..

Anyone who already tried this??

The correct answer always is to leave Intel.

@1bqz - Good validators are not valued, but get all the blame if a "visible" bug slips through.

The problem is the a good validator is so rare that the id--t people managers at Intel don't even know one when they see one, so their expertise is ignored and dismissed.

Agree integration is monkey work. RTL/IP design is the fun stuff, but the quality IP design opportunities can be scarce depending on the group. I don't get the comments on validation. A quality validator is worth their weight in gold. To a designer, a validation role may not be that fun, but doesn't mean others don't get joy out of it. Depends on the design you are validating and quality of the code too.

Oh yeah, and DFX folks don't get respect.

@1wli - True, but pure validation is even worse. Career dead-end.

Integration at Intel is literally monkey work. DFX people are punching bags. AVOID.

Validation s---s and is a dead end job. If you are not doing RTL/IP design or at least integration or maybe DFX, do yourself a favor and find another job.

I wish I left validation ten years ago. Just do it now and never regret it. Validation is not the place at intel.
