corruption and nepotism are the defining characteristics of Indian culture, they are not desirable imports

Immigration is good if it contributes positively. New ideas and new perspectives are always welcomed to someone that’s opened minded. It’s when newcomers bring their incompetence and feigned superiority that people like me become bigots. I wasn’t a racist before I started Intel. Most of my friends were, in fact, 1st generation immigrants. But now... my child’s grade classroom is > 60% a certain ethnicity. How is this diversity? When will affirmative action kick in to solve this problem?

It is not the one H1b that sinks the ship, it is the culture they bring. Think of it this way. If your country is in a such a bad way that you want to leave. And 80 thousand of your friends think the same. And your 80k friends bring their parents and spouses. And you all start having kids. And you refuse to truly integrate into the country that welcomed you in. I promise that a great deal of what you’re trying to escape is coming, too. Don’t get me wrong... my parents aren’t native - they immigrated, too. But I don’t complain when the cafeteria doesn’t serve enough food from my part of the world and criticize them for doing a bad job when they do.

Sorry to burst your bubble. Most pairs you see at intel have H1bs of their own. A few hundred at best are on H4. The best part about all of this is that those of you wishing ill on others aplenty even when the outcome is for most, if not all, part inconsequential to you are just asking for 'Karma is a b***h'. Prayers won't help much now that the seed has been sown.

It would be a welcome change and while may affect the bottom line in the short term will actually help long term in quality employees.

The classic example I see id a talented H1B is hired (usually male w/ a PHD) and the wife (Masters/Bachelors) later gets hires on. Having been in interview committees the path is usually while they failed for competency portions of the interview they did well for a 'culture' fit where interviewers were from the same 'culture' and the person being interviewed. These candidates then get hires on and become more of a burden to other employees ans they require more hand holding than normal.

While maybe not the worst qualified they aren't they best qualified and they also distract from those that are top qualified.

There is a valid need for highly specialized HOneBees, and such. With this said, there is major abuse via most if not all tech companies. You know, the black listed, can’t find qualified, talented labor? Here? Bottom line/Profit margins. Nobody wins! Well., select few do$.
