Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Pay cuts in addition to layoffs?

There is no doubt there will headcount reductions in the first month. But what if they are not just using the rooms for layoffs, but using them also to talk to about your about your role being "reclassified" or something like that. All in the an effort to cut your salary. BS has been known to do this in the past. This would be another "tool" to use to either make you quit, in which case would relieve them of your severance cost , or you accept the pay cut and they would save money that way as well.

Could this be true? Could we be looking at pay cuts as well?

Under UK law an employer cannot unilaterally impose a pay cut.

Rather than whine about the thought of being reclassified you should look at it from the very basic premise of supply and demand. Once you've done that you will realize that it's only possible because of the unmarketable lifers are grosslt overpaid. Boo-Hoo. Stop crying in your warm beer and get a clue about how you've wasted 10+ years of professional development.

Anywhere in Europe it will be considered a serious violation of labor rights. Especially as such decision is not reflected in financial results of enterprise.

Imho, at this moment t Management plans to perform a cuts via attrition. Keeping the lights on, everything else is on hold for few months now.

Trying to give pay cuts is harder than just laying people off. Harder to get it done, and more legal risk. Prob not on the table.

For sh-- sake, just leave. The economy, at least in the US, is the best in decades, thanks to the person you soy boys are all scared of. If you are in the EU, you are fakked, thanks to brussels

I am not sure, but what I have read (at least in US) it is legal. Apparently, Private Equity companies do use this method to force people to quit. I hope this not the case.
