Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Pharmacy DM fired Tuesday

My wife pharmacy DM was fired yesterday and stores reassigned to other DMs. Obviously his position is not going to be replaced because the new DM said she was given more stores rather than just temporarily covering. The district stores affected were from IN, WI, IL , TN and MS. At least one other pharmacy DM was also canned but my wife didn't personally know her or her territory. Firings to save money or because the districts are getting ready to shrink???

So the OP talked about that DM having stores in MS. There are only two Kmarts in MS and one is closing. The other Kmart store in MS doesn't have a pharmacy, so that's very likely why they're getting rid of DMs... there simply aren't enough Kmart pharmacies left to justify that many positions.

Kmart currently has approximately 140 stores with pharmacies now. DM sent an email recently ranking his stores against others in a Company contest to increase pharmacy pr-scrip-ions.

My local Kmart closed the pharmacy last year and since then there hasn't been much business there. My grandmother loved the Kmart pharmacy but now has to go elsewhere.

I have a feeling my local Kmart will be closing within the next few months. The parking alot is nearly empty when I pass by.

The pharmacy division of Kmart has shrank... Given the number of store closings, and the number of pharmacies that have closed, I haven't heard much in the way of pharmacy support staff being let go.

It would not surprise me if we hear about more pharmacies closing or Kmart getting out of the pharmacy business all together. Target already sold their pharmacists assets to CVS, and now leases the space. They are a huge expense, and after the Medicare billing scandal, it wouldn't surprise me if there is additional pressure on the pharmacy division to ensure evrything is on the up and up.

Personally, I like the pharmacy in my store... I love the tech and pharmicists. Our floater just retired and the position will be unfill. The pharmicists aren't too happy about working more hours, and i know they are already interviewing at other companies.

Probably both. Pharmacies cost a lot of money to keep open. They are probably getting out of the pharmacy business. Our pharmacy closed over two years ago and the sales in our store plummeted because the people who would use the pharmacy also would shop there.
