Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Employees leave bosses not companies

It’s been said many times but the harsh truth. Employees who get laid off or leave on their own are all responsibilities of (except some real bad cases) the supervisors. It’s supervisors job to keep employees motivated and recognize their efforts, show fairness etc. Any supervisors with more than 3 reports resignation since 2015 should be laid off due to poor people skills. Supervisors with 5 or more layoffs since 2015 should be laid off without any offers. This is high time to get rid of all sh--ty supervisors and managers.

i beg to differ, OP, because i know from personal experience that some employees leave due to bosses, and others leave due to the company...

recently, a very solid, long-term employee left the company (prior to the most recent round of layoffs) due to an unreasonable supervisor (initials NA). no other reason than he/she was told that he/she would be held accountable for things that were outside of his/her control and beyond even a reasonable expectation of influence. said employee exercised proper judgement and ejected.

i, personally and voluntarily, just left the company in the most recent round of layoffs due to an absolute lack of faith in the direction of the company. i know first-hand of affirmative action nightmares (CC) who have cost the company years in productivity due to simple territoriality, inept management (MK) who have cost the company millions of dollars due to arrogance and ignorance, and up-and-coming IT stars (MP,BA) who literally know nothing but rote IT dogma and will cost the company dearly in years to come...yet...

NA still works for the company, CC still works for the company, MK still works for the company and MP,BA will continue to work for the company for the foreseeable future, with full management endorsement and accolades.

Why? Because those in power above them enjoy their exorbitant salaries, bonuses and benefits. I've said for years that this company would have gone broke ages ago if money didn't literally run out of a hole in the ground.

You paying attention, The Street?

You should be.

I agree, generally. In the case of COP I think some people are leaving because they no longer like what they see in the larger company. Observing the last 4 years, some have had enough and leave the company, not the boss.

wbs, so true. The company got rid of the good ones. They are continually captivated by the bad ones who know how to talk a good talk, row the company line, and promote themselves.

Unfortunately a good number of the supervisors with people skills were laid off.
