Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Internal memo for 2018

Touched on the topics of having one manager between two stores for both formats.

Home improvement and appliances/mattress CSAs combined. New incentive structure either tiered commission or hourly TBD. I do not know what is meant by tiered, I am assuming based on sales performance.

PA promotion TBD to grow PA sales and Sears MC with training and development.

Change in store payroll system. Possible elimination of OA role. Stores will be block scheduled and store leadership will not have as much involvement in this process

New scheduling process. Market teams will now have input.

Meeting/Q&A is Thursday, October 25

Dollar General , as well as most of the other retailers that are somewhat successful in this retail environment are basically set up with the same floor plan . Makes all the signage and merchandising easier.

When Sears saw Walmart passing them up back in the 90s, they recognized that , but the larger stores weren't able to adapt to a cookie cutter floor plan, or even be adaptable to the design necessary to operate like a Walmart. The one two punch that took them out was online sales, which owed its business model to Sears Catalog, which had been scuttled . A small store concept could work, had the money been there and not siphoned off.

It sounds like they are moving towards running the stores like a Dollar General. At DG they don't have as much staff in their stores because there's not much to do. They are simple store done right. They are extremely efficient in what they do. I do think it's a bit late to scramble into getting the stores to work efficiently.

Their pricing signs gets UPSed to the store. They are packaged in sequence to where you go down the aisle and the price tags are in the order if the POG. Trucks are loaded in sequence as the floor is set, everything is sequenced on metal carts and it makes replenishments go faster. Seriously, they run these stores with one or two people, maybe three at a time.

If the Office Associate is eliminated, who will count the $$$? I know. I know there's no money but seriously.
