I am personally very skeptical about the purchase of RedHat, especially with the price that was paid. This article states that IBM saw in RedHat something that the competition failed to see and provides an insight on the ways that it plans to benefit from the buy. RedHat was on sale for quite some time and the word is that several competitors passed on the opportunity to acquire RedHat. I certainly hope that the author is right, but knowing what IBM usually does to its acquisitions, I highly doubt that any benefits will come from this.
