Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Projects group takes the big hit.

They got rid of a lot of good people today.

Looks like 115 hit the streets.

So nice to let people go 54 days before Christmas.

Thanks so much A.M

Yup, Really! Enbridge serfs in the US only get 4 SDO's PER YEAR!! If you get knocked up, welcome to your 12 weeks, (NOT Months) of mat leave! It's good to be Canadian!

Really? That’s awful. And yes, I am Canadian. Sorry for any misinformation to the US folks.

Ha! "Um, there are legal requirements for severance (except for contractors)." You must be one of those spoiled, privileged Canadians. If you are a working serf if the US, there are absolutely NO legal requirements for severance. Anything you get, anything at all, is at the discretion of the company. In the good old USA, you can be kicked to the curb with NOTHING!

I would assume all, but I just know what I can see in financial statements, which you can find for any business unit that has shareholders.

When you say “executives being pushed out is a totally different story,” what level of “executive” are you talking about? EVP, for sure. But do VPs also have their severance amounts specified in their employment contracts with Enbridge?

Um, there are legal requirements for severance (except for contractors). Enbridge provides more than the legal minimum—as does pretty much every large company. This is not because they care, but because it’s good practice to avoid legal challenges. Most people who get fired get equally generous severance, or at least that has been the case historically. In fact, I know of several bumbling, incompetent fools who were fired prior to the Spectra merger and who got severance packages far in excess of what’s being offered to laid-off employees now.

Note - executives being pushed out is a totally different story. They generally have set severance amounts, some of which are publicly available if you know where to look, and the amounts at the level most of us could live off “more than comfortably” for an entire lifetime.

Anyway, I’m not suggesting Enbridge is in the wrong ... it’s more of a comment on how wacky executive compensation is these days in comparison to the average worker, and how there is little equity how these big restructurings unfold for the average Jane or Joe.

Agree. It’s employment at will and things could be far worse. There could be no severance package.

While i have been on pins and needles as everyone else , i had come to Enbridge to retire. This was to be my final stop. Time will tell if that is the case with 5 projects groups i find it hard to believe they only found 115 overlapping positions. To my point, I was able to find the US version of the severance package. It is quite generous, people need to remember it is employment at will. We can leave at anytime and the employer can cut us at anytime without any package. It could be far worse. And IP guy is just a stir stick i find his rants quite humerous but pointless.

I don't know who the IP a-- is but it's only a matter of time before he receives his walking papers. As the note said, Enbridge scales up and down for infrastructure projects. Once everything is built, which could take awhile as the company is awash in debt, he'll either have moved on or been let go.

115 good employees were let go before Christmas which signals to the rest of the company that you are just a number and have no feelings. Heaven forbid that these individuals would get to have an extra payday this month as it would look bad on the balance sheets. One wonders if Enbridge has enough money to keep paying us or if they are socking it away in a reserve fund for the year end bonuses.

Was Line 3 Edmonton part of the 115?

Within a month or two, the competent 115 will be replaced by 200 HQ based freeloaders & r----ds. The company seems to embrace freeloaders and r----ds which explains IPs existence (proof exists in the comment below).

Tough to see many good people from projects take the hit. But there is still positives from today. To my knowledge, the irreplaceable talent and core skills from Infrastructure Planning were maintained. If Enbridge is a human body, we can rest well knowing the heart and the brain are still there at 100%. We will be fine
