International Business Machines Corp. is nearing a deal to buy software maker Red Hat Inc. for more than $20 billion, according to people familiar with the matter.
Terms of the expected takeover couldn’t be learned, but the companies could announce it later Sunday, the people said.
Red Hat, an open-source software provider based in Raleigh, N.C., has a market value of $20.5 billion.
