Thread regarding IBM layoffs

RedHat acquisition makes zero sense for IBM

This makes zero sense for IBM.

Red Hat is a nice little Linux business, but it doesn't do much with the cloud.

Linux (the operating system) is the VERY BOTTOM of the software stack. Having control of Red Hat will do NOTHING "to help companies bridge those technologies with applications that run in their own data centers" in Ginni's terms.

And Red Hat is just one of many Linux distributions. You better believe that Microsoft, Google, Amazon, etc. are not using RHEL in their cloud operations. And they'd be running from now if they were.

This is just the dumbest, stupidest, most desperate move that I have ever seen. This make the HP acquisition of Autonomy looks like a genius move.

Just read this post ( @VSH2RkF-oho). Think that the OP is right

Red Hat has more than Linux distro's, their cloud forms tool is pretty powerful, and is EXACTLY what IBM wants, a service to manage multiple clouds. Im shocked you mororns cant see the foolishness you are spouting.

I dont think IBM will be successful with it, as they cant let a good company be, they will destroy it during the Blue Washing process just like all the others.

They will call it Spectrum Protect Vapor Cloud Enablement Super Duper Suite.

I am imagining the knuckle-dragging in the Board Room...

Ugg. Linux is platform for Cloud. Some VP tell me that "Hybrid Cloud" is future (what is "Hybrid Cloud"?)

We have Linux platform, we make lots money integrating Hybrid Cloud. Give Red Hat money, we make much money integrating Hybrid Cloud with Linux.

(2 years later)

Ugg. What mean, operating system (what is "operating system"?) not integrate Cloud Applications? We have operating system, why not operating system integrate applications?

What mean most Cloud not using the Red Hat?

What mean "nobody care about the Hybrid Cloud"?

Must make Shareholders dance. Hit employees of the Red Hat with stick. Use Big Stick.

I totally agree. It's a desperate gamble and an expensive one a that.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Ginni and the Board clearly have no understanding at all of the cloud business, what is going on in the cloud industry, how the competitors are positioning themselves, or even how software works.
