Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Silent Sears Store Closures

Some malls want to keep Sears' closing sales almost a secret. Among the rules they want:

  • No outdoor signs

  • No window signs within 12 inches of glass

  • Only 5 other signs inside the store

  • Only white signs, no neon

  • No "going out of business," no "everything must go"

Sears should re-hire the layoffs and have them walk around in sandwich boards

It's like the mall management is in denial! They don't want to see any reminders that they are losing a tenant. They want to stick their head in the sand and pretend everything is just fine. Sound familiar?

Just put a bunch of homeless sign twirlers out on the sidewalk.

You don't pay the rent you don't get signs up outside

Sometimes it's a Mall restriction and sometimes the city does not allow banners for extended amounts of time

A mall worried about Sears "Store Closing" signage is likely is deep trouble already. Signs or not isn't going to change that.

I can understand upscale malls like North brook Court or Wood field malls here in the Chicago area would not want that as they have an 'image' to maintain and prefer this kind of thing be kept as low-key as possible. At Wood field I have seen signs for closing retailers "everything must go", "store closing" signs at various smaller shops inside the main mall (seen in their inside window displays), but not seen on the outside of the mall. Recent examples were Brook stone and American apparel this past year.

At this point it's not up to Sears or the mall, everything will be decided by court order from now on.

I think it’s a great idea to stop putting those Sugns up. Makes it look like the entire mall is in trouble or closing

Let sears find another way to advertise!

Are you REALLY that s--t--u--p---i---d? one store that has "Store Closing" on the outside of it, does NOT make it look like the entire mall is closing, only a complete (m)-o-(r)-o-(n) would think so.

When our store was being liquidated, the liquidator told me that in regards to signing he was bound by the mall's guidelines outside the store and by SHLD's guidelines inside the store, because it was a voluntary liquidation. The liquidator said that when a liquidation is by order of a bankruptcy court, the judge can determine what type of signing will be employed. The liquidator said that if the court deems outside signs necessary, then the mall cannot prevent him from putting them up.

Maybe Leana can post to Facebook and tell people to like it. That will save SHC

The great coverup, going on since 2009.

"I think it’s a great idea to stop putting those Sugns up. Makes it look like the entire mall is in trouble or closing"

Uh yeah, because it is. There are those who are in denial, like the person who wrote this, and there are those who know what's really going on.
