Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

Why are they using the phrase: “ get out while you still can”?

An oft-used phrase on here is “get out while you still can”. It’s used by folks that have been laid off from WFT. What does that mean? It implies that at some point, it will be IMPOSSIBLE to leave. Why is this? Will there come a point in the not-too-distant future when WFT shackles the remaining employees and forces them into hard labor with no possibility of escape? Would it not make more sense to “ride this horse until it can’t run any more”?

The Original poster, @VEWrYes-8lzg got it right. What’s the deal with people using this phrase all the time? I get it that it’s smart to look for other jobs, but getting out at any cost doesn’t make sense to me.

It is easier to find a job if not everyone is seeking a job. When WFT goes down, everyone will be in the market. Get out while you can.

Must admit I was blindsided when I was released as part of the RiF. That said, I was also lucky I suppose that it occurred when they were still giving packages as I had been there 15+ years. Had medical and essentially salary plus some paid out and landed a new job prior to my garden period ending, actually had to delay starting the new job.

Unfortunately, from what I have heard from others more recently released the packages are less than what was given before it you are even offered something beyond the month you are released.

As said, it is better to be in control of your own path than to have it picked for you by a company that does not value you. Know your worth and take action.

It means get out on your own terms and your own timeline. Otherwise you will be blindsided and it definitely puts a dent in your pride to be laid off as well.

The economy is doing fairly well right now.

Lots of companies hiring for better wages than what weatherford has been paying.

Regular scrubs received no significant raises in over 4 years, they didnt keep up with any inflation.

16 dollars an hour was pretty good in 2011, now that can be found at Costco.

Talk to any low level employee, none of them are satisfied with the company or its direction. The place is a factory of sadness. The grass is greener on the other side. No sense in staying there in a miserable situation.

To the fall of the empire.

dilly dilly!
