Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

People who left

Anyone who left. Out of curiosity where did you get a job at? I was thinking of leaving. You don’t have to give the company name if you do not want to. I have been thinking of putting my resume out there. There are tons of places out there hiring in Charlotte. I saw BB&T, and others. Where did you all go, and was it worth it?

"They do have a business plan for the future"

Actually the people who the jobs are outsourced to are doing the same job, but usually with less knowledge of what they are doing, so they won't many times use creative thinking to solve an issue.

They will call out a technician for something that was always resolved before the position was outsourced because of that lack of creativity to solve a problem. This equals to longer outage times, and increases the chance the customer moves to the competition.

When you say less I guess you mean those people overseas that were given someone's job here aren't worth as much so they don't count as real people.

They do have a business plan for the future. It requires less employees with different skill sets.

Laid off 01-17,

Interviewed twice and got offers from both. Sadly at 2/3rds WS pay.

Became a freelance PBX installer and work as needed.

I'm blessed as my wife carries the benefits for the family which made it possible.

Ironic I was hired at WS for my PBX skills, worked on every product without issue then laid off. Such sadness WS has no leadership to develop a business plan for the future. It's, as a friend use to say, an unguided missile!

If you're in the Charlotte area, check out Conterra Networks. Other former WIN talent has already joined the team as well.

Some things to keep in mind....

.....Companies decriminate against the unemployed.....it the unfortunate reality.

.....it’s far easier to get a job while still employed.

......The job market is very good.... but only if you have skills you can market and you have connections.......get more skills and connections or get left behind.

I left on my own in 2017 and did the work to prepare.....i am now in a great position I could never have imagined myself in. Dont screw yourself or you will end up desparate working at your local call center telemarking insurance to old ladies for $9 an hour...if you make your quota.

I moved. Its a much better company and it take very long to get the interviews going. Windstream makes it out like they are the only place to work. There are better companies. Get your resume out there and get out

Left on my own will about a year ago...tired of all the BS and did not have anything lined up...my decisions were based on my own values and morals...I refuse to work for a company that does not value their employees and the employees sacrifices along with their contribution...money equates to greed which in the end will equate to destruction!

I went back to school to get my PhD. I make more money, get awesome health insurance, and work is much more fulfilling. Not to mention that once I’m finally out of school, there will hopefully plenty of better positions willing to take me.

Advice: don’t search for advice from random forkers on the Internet. The last post was from a 12 year old girl in Norway who is using this forum to improve her self esteeem. Cause “i got a new job and now my new job is taking business away from my old job... Is realistic only in high level positions / exec. Otherwise that sh-- was already happening before you. You had a life before ws and you will have a life after.

I was given a 2 week notice before being let go on the 2/1 batch. I always make it a point to keep my resume up to date and after receiving the warning I opened up my profiles on the major job boards (careerbuilder, dice, etc). Within a week I received an email from a job looking for my skillset in the another metro area. I drove down (2 hours) interviewed even made a presentation for the occasion. 2 hours after turning in my badge on 2/1 got the call offering me the job. Used the severance pay from WS to move down to the new city. Pay literally over doubled from my WS base. The benefits are amazing and the culture is non-toxic.

The best part about it is the company that Im with has been having issues with WS for sometime and Im spearheading the project (almost finished) to remove all WS services from the business. This should be completed by year end. This around a 700k-1mil revenue generating business for WS.

Im happy to be taking that away from them.

If you’ve not been consistantly networking, updating your resume, learning, and and gathering transferable skills, you are going to have a problem. There are tons of jobs out there, but the decent ones require experience and the competition is fierce. I know first hand that the grass is greener, but only if you’ve have been proactive for a while. Otherwise you’re going send out 100’s of resumes that will all be ignored, and if you don’t have connections you’re going to be SOL.

I had no choice in the matter I was let go.

It took me a few months but I landed on my feet in a better place with better benefits. My being let go was WS loss.

What are you waiting for?

There are better places.
