Little chance to produce 1,000 jobs in France by year end

I think GE has fallen victim to their own unlogical moves. I don’t see any chance of creating these 1k jobs in France, especially not in such short timeframe. The new leadership is caught up in bigger issues in an effort to keep GE afloat, and I sincerely doubt that Alstom or french jobs are on their mind. It really makes me mad that the company is laying off people to save costs, but on the other hand, they are going to let millions slide due to fines, for promises they couldn't deliver on.

Good gracious why would GE want to hire any more GEP employees anywhere in the world? GEP needs to shed another 10000+ beyond what have already been committed. Look at our OMs and understand base costs vs market size...we are screwed!

“Why not unmerge GE Power, i.e. spin off the former Alstom parts into a separate company and let it deal with the French government and the European Union”

That IS nonsense.

He IS a m-o-r-o-n.

BTW GE renewables is also primarily from Alstom. Jerome Precresse leads that business.

The “make America great again” nonsense has to stop. GE is a global company. It must be managed by sharp leaders who drive ii in the 21st century.

Then again if GM is your benchmark, good luck to you, 1kvd...

GEP is in a bad position because turbine sales are way, way down for everyone and GE failed to acknowledge it in time to protect itself.

Apparently 1iyx has some deep seated hostility issues. GE is where it is today due to bad decisions made by upper management dating back to Welch and continuing with Immelt, not by anyone on this forum.

When GM was struggling and went into Chapter 11, they formed Motor Liquidation Company to settle past liability claims, moved the profitable assets into the new GM and retained the undesirable assets in MLC. MLC swiftly went into the dustbin of history. It isn't impossible to envision GE doing something similar with Power in the future, keeping the best bits, perhaps merging it with renewables, and then somehow shedding the rest.

1lnd : you are a clown, if you are still with GE you need to leave now. It is because of mo--ns like you that GE is where it is today.

The world is a complex space to navigate. People need to understand the consequences of their acts. And make the right decisions to keep the company strong as a global player.

In this particular case: spin off all of GE Power, with a new CEO, who will reshape/resize it. Kill all the dead pieces regardless of which side of the ocean they are on. Make GE Power great again. In France, Switzerland, and yes in America as well!..

Why not unmerge GE Power, i.e. spin off the former Alstom parts into a separate company and let it deal with the French government and the European unions. Perhaps someone will be stupid enough to buy it, Siemens wanted to and Immelt did!

GE will pay the fine.

GE power is not an American company. Half of it is French/Swiss. Get real, America...

GE already said they arent creating the jobs. its cheaper to pay the fines than to get tied up deeper with the govt and then worry about the massive costs of layoffs of french workers.

$50k/employee x 1,000 employees = $50 million. WHO CARES? No one. That's who.

28 - 30 million in fines is a drop in bucket. Anyway the french will bargain so they don't lose the rest of the 400 - 500 jobs.
