Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Why doesn't everybody leave?

What is to stop everybody from leaving right now? Just packing up and leaving all those who put us in this position hanging? What exactly is there left for those who are still here to lose? We'll all be looking for new jobs soon enough, what's to stop us from starting a few months earlier?

Then we could just grab some popcorn and watch the guaranteed spectacle unravel.

There are plenty of jobs, Paul Ryan just said the other day, economy is great, 90 percent are getting bonuses, and wage increases. Quit already, jobs are coming out of America's a--. Best Economy in 50 Years.

I am not leaving because I have worked there for almost 20 years and have things built up. Like almost 17 dollars in Shop Your Way Rewards points. And I am hoping to use it to get something nice, just as soon as the clearance sales start and things go 50% off. That is why I am not leaving.

It'll be harder to steal the tvs if I'm not working there.

I may be wrong, though.

@VHC8W95-uyc anyone under 50 should be looking for employment. Studies have shown that finding jobs in the older age range is hard. The thing is that a lot of young folks work for sears. In my dept. (store now closed)the oldest person was 45!!!! These folks are here for the fallout and are not pressed about finding another low paying job as they are quite hirable. Liquidation was quite the experience.

There are people who are close to retirement, so leaving would jeopardize their pensions. There are people who have families, and may fall into unhirable categories (anyone over the age of 30, especially if they are in their 50s).

This is not an economy that is conducive to living wage salaries. Many people are trapped because they simply can't afford to just jump and hope for the best.

You also have to remember that not everyone hangs out on this site. Maybe folks are coming here for the first time.

For better or worse, most employees of Sears are going to end up in a really bad spot as the company slides awkwardly into Chapter 7 because the economy is just not robust enough for folks to easily jump ship.

If folks really want a mass exodus, the way to do that is to facilitate connections between employees and hiring agents in other companies. If you're a former Sears employee and you know there are opportunities where you work, spread the word. If you can, put in good words for people. Most employment opportunities arise from connections, not cold-calls.

If you're not going to help people find new work, then you really can't complain about people not leaving. It's not their job to risk their own bankruptcy and homelessness just to satisfy someone's outrage over corporate malfeasance.

Because we are still getting paid and most of us have families that rely on those paychecks. So we keep working while we find new jobs.
