Hi All,
I'm sure this varies per country, my role will be gone in a matter of months, just not sure how many months. If I take another job before I'm officially redundant am I still entitled to redundancy?
Hi All,

Unfortunately I can't "save" anyone's job as they are all moving offshore. Guess I'll have top spend the next few months working myself out of a job
At a previous employer I had found another job and I was waiting to pass prerequisites prior to handing in my notice. At same time the company I was working for was making a few people redundant , but not me. Even if It was the package was government min. Anyway I figured if I handed in my notice I could save someone’s job , so I quit prior to plan. I went for medical prerequisite and they blood cells in my urine ....oh joy quit my job and now might not pass prerequisite medical for new job. After a couple of days of anxiety did urine test again and all was ok. Phew !
Long ago, I know a guy who was on the cut, list but bragged to the wrong person that he had already accepted an outside job. His name was removed from the list, and he had to choose between staying at TR, or honoring his commitment elsewhere and resigning from TR with nada. He chose wisely, but didn't get the package he'd have gotten had he kept his mouth shut.
Years later, I knew another guy who came forward after a RIF, and asked to be included. His wish was granted, and because of that, they were able to keep someone else who'd been notified but really needed the gig.
In the first case, the manager was an a--hole who was subsequently let go for misconduct. In the second case, the manager was a good guy with a sound moral compass, who eventually left on his own for greener pastures. So it really depends on your manager. If you trust him or her, have the conversation. Discretion is key.
“He secured a new role, handed his notice in and then asked for redundancy. DOH!”
What a classic ...ha ha ha ...
I saw this happen once at a previous employer.
My manager at time said to team “I don’t know why you guys hang about hoping for the layoff payment , they will never let you go with your skill sets’.
He quit with 20 years service and took another job.
1 month later we all got layed off and he asked if he could cancel his notice ?
We all got a very generous package aka 1 month per year plus 6 months and garden leave.
Reminds me of a colleague, our manager was asking people to speak to him and let it be know if they were interested in redundancy - as there might be possibilities...
He secured a new role, handed his notice in and then asked for redundancy. DOH!
Nope. That's why people are waiting and hoping for their time to be now. Why would TR/Ref/Any company give you money because you said you were already leaving?
