Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Too many managers and not enough people doing the actual work at IBM.

You will eventually lose everything with that business model in place.

But we could have another town hall to pretend we are great.

My organization is so gutted that we make decisions every day to disappoint customers. We have no SMEs left for much of what we are supposed to support.

Uuo. This is so true. It’s the old adage “good, cheap, fast”. Pick 2. IBM went for “cheap and fast”. Customer relationships are at an all time low. IBM only calls on the fortune 250. Everyone else has been thrown to the channel, where the experience level is very very poor. Everything is done on the phone with little to zero face to face time anymore. Any so you ask why are HW sales dropping. People buy from people they like and trust. Phone calls do not encourage that

All they have to do is remove couple of layers- Sr. Manager, Director. They are neither here nor there and hardly contribute to bottom line. (do not get me wrong they may be smart)

IBM RA actions are starting to show according to this survey posted on Marketwatch today.

In a Morgan Stanley survey of chief information officers -- 76 from U.S. IT companies and 24 from European companies, carried out in August and September -- the firm found that 43% of CIOs are evaluating using AI and machine learning in their businesses, compared with 35% in the year-ago period. But with that increase, IBM (IBM) has lost its dominance, the report said.

Of the CIOs surveyed, 27% preferred Amazon as a vendor, up from 24% in the year-ago survey. Preference for IBM (IBM) fell to 24% of respondents from 33% in the year-ago survey. Microsoft remained in third place at 20%, up from 15% in the year- ago survey
