Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Look closer at the new Refinitiv clients and employees (2nd try)

** This post may be deleted, so if you read this copy and save and re-post.

We are now twelve days into the birth of Refinitiv, and finally I see clarity into what is happening. Having been with TR (started with Reuters) for over 20+ years, and gone through about a dozen of layoff cycles during my time here I have to say this is the most frightening one of all. Not for me personally, but for the company as a whole. I know… I know Refinitiv is now owned by private equity, and I would agree the cost cutting measures are needed. But there is something lurking under the surface here, which we (employees and clients) are not seeing yet.

This “partnership” was portrayed as a way for F he only needed to confirm the reductions. He didn’t lie and downplay the real number for the employees benefit. This was said so it did not spook the clients yet. BS was quoted as saying there would $250M saving within the first three months mostly though “technology saving”. This was a complete lie. All the saves came from headcount reductions. I cannot say for sure, but I would guess the recent reduction have surpassed the quoted $250M. Another lie quoted from BS was “most of the initial cuts will come from Senior Management”, “not from Sales teams”. As we have all witnessed this week, not many Sr. management have left the company, but plenty of mid management and down have been shown the door. So within the first twelve days, everything that has come from BS or DC and his crew has been lies. If you are an employee or a client, do not believe ANYTHING you hear from DC or BS. Their short track record pertaining to Refinitiv speaks for itself.

I am not an employee that was let go this week, I am still employed (for now) at Refinitiv. So I am not an angry ex-employee, I am just trying to point out how I see this playing out. So if you are an employee that was let go this week, take comfort in the fact that you got out at the right time because it is only going to get worse… a lot worse. If you are still an employee and you have many years of service try your best to leave as soon as possible, I know I am. Raise your hand or have a private conversation with your manager and volunteer to be made redundant. If you are a client start the TR/Refinitiv removal process as soon as possible before the old F&R unwinding hits its fully stride.

Another important point. You don't need to sign off on their offer immediately. I posted before they will only meet local law requirements plus a little bit maybe but usually not. In my experience many people are over taken by large cheques. You can (and should walk out) and tell them I need some time to think about this. I am not saying you will get more money but at least YOU will be in control. Every Manager and HR has a daily layoff target for signsoffs you will at least be able to mess with their day. I personally was offered local law plus 3 months to resign. NO WAY. I left the office and after 10 days they begged me to accept law + 3 months gift with no resignation. Try and get any AIP added as well. They used to pay it with redundancy. It will reduce the bonus tax significantly but they always try to pay you end of Q1. For me personally they 'forgot' to pay my bonus end of q1 well you imagine what I said to them.

Ref: CLE comment. I agree that they have to comply with local employment laws. In the UK, the generous package being offered is NOT written into contracts. After June 2019, they can change the package (which they have said they will honour) and they probably will, otherwise why have they quoted the June 2019 date, if there was not change on horizon ?

The gov't minimum poor. Have a look at the gov.Uk site for statutory redundancy pay and compare it to what is being offered now.

On retention awards for staff they need for transition, these also come with conditions.

If you are offered a good package to go (e.g. Ex-Reuters UK agreement, over 40 with 10+ years ) - I would take it and move on.

Not sure where the reduced package posts came from. I have seen this mentioned on this site several times. They HAVE to comply with local law. I was a Manager so I have some knowledge on the subject. They never pay more than they are legally obligated to pay. Sometimes they offer 3 months on top if you 'resign'. This would fully negate any future legal proceedings. I personally freaked and told them where they could shove their offer. Handover packages are offered if they need to pick your brains and buy your smile before you leave. This ocurred historically with all the Data Centre closures. If you receive this kind of offfer tell them you want a retraining investment allowance. They might sponsor some industry recognised qualifications while they are s---ing your brain.

I suspect this layoff is nothing compared to what they'll do after June 30th on reduced payouts.

All this is a gift to our competitors of course.

As a client I would now feel nervous committing to investing in any project involving Rifinitiv.

This lay-off looks definitely the scariest of them all. BS is ruthless and will treat employees terribly.

Totally agree. After 20+ yrs, I'm now on the other side of the fence. The sadness I feel is for the good people we're all leaving behind who are at the mercy of the same group of people driving this company around in circles & going nowhere fast.

Same here! Was also shown the door this week and after a day of relative disappointement, I now feel liberated and even think I’m lucky! It just feels extremely bumpy and uncertain to stick around.

Can’t agree more with this post. I am one of the fortunate ones that was let go today and I can’t be happier. Feel so liberated!!
