Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

WorkPlace - Facebook for Chevron

A portion of the company has had WorkPlace rolled out to them. I think at the executive level, they post messages that are very intentional and planned out with some cadence. That's not a bad addition to the company, honestly. On the other extreme, some of these other people who are using company time and posting and commenting all day long... It's the same cast of characters popping up on my feed. Unless they are actually communications people for an organization or something, I would hope that they're the first to go when the next ROM comes. Maybe I am too old school, but what the h3ll are these guys doing for their real day jobs? Motivational speakers? Do we have these roles all over the company?

same deal with employee experience too. same characters spend all day looking for articles to post, and it's just a regurgitation of what they see on linkedin with absolutely no original thought.

the guy that keeps posting things like #imagineif should probably get some work done. #imagineif you did a bit of work, and stop wasting company money on facebook... that'll be great.

Another useless tool, like so many that they churn out. Forget about silly technology tricks. It’s a complete waste of time. The people who promote these failed gimmicks should be fired, just as the people who show no ambition or initiatives should also be fired. Now those who use common sense, network face to face and solve real problems, those are the ones who should be promoted in position and pay. Those are your leaders.

I have not activated my account and have no plans to do so. The daily email that comes out goes straight to the delete folder.

Does Workpace get oil out of the ground? No? Stop wasting time with this thing.

One of the detriments that I have seen out of WorkPlace is that people put lipstick on a pig for their initiatives and self-promote. And very senior level executive leaders who actually do not know the details get to comment and share and repost the nonsense that was posted on WorkPlace because it was someone from their function. A specific example recently is in D&C. You have the VP scrolling through things and seeing things that she thinks is good conceptually, but actually has no idea on the burden that certain initiatives have on the organization. When an executive "likes" and "shares" something, it tends to give it more weight and emphasis, like it's "leadership approved". WorkPlace is terrible.

It won’t be long before management will be ordering quotas from their direct reports to enter suggestions and other inputs into this tool. Like most of the time, they tweak with the metrics to push the result they want to see.

No, no decrease in productivity across the board at all, that would be 100% false. Now maybe for a few losers who do nothing but play on their PC's all day like children and are easily distracted and cannot behave themselves. That would most likely include most of the posters here. I don't consider that a representative sample of the normal, competent employees of CVX, but more like the posters on a layoffs site. Big surprise.

Now that this has been rolled out to everyone, the worker productivity just decreased by 1000%. It is amazing how much useless posts are on it. I see a bunch of executives who have to post because they are told to post. And I see a bunch of people from service organizations not making any oil. Mr Wirth, please outsource them all.

@pxx, that's just stupid. that means HR is going to sift out the executives because they actually have been told by our leaders that they have to post things at least once a week or something like that.

Use that tool to your detriment. The judges don’t use valid protocols, only subjectivity. Everything is subjective when it comes to recognizing and rewarding employees. The PMP and ranking sessions for years are excellent examples. Stay away from distractions and pitfalls like using this tool.

If anything is a useful tool to "sift out the employees who are a waste of time and resources", I applaud their use of it. Since when is identifying wasteful useless employees and removing them a detriment to the company?

Workplace, if not used to advance company business, will become another tool for HR to sift out the employees who are a waste of time and resources. Best stay off that Facebook “tool” or risk being put on the blacklist for the next round of cuts.

Over-sharers and corp comm folks. Over-sharing is a psych trait, look it up - cannot change them...
