More than 4 years ago, slb started to invest large amounts of time, people and money into new Digital Technologies. There was Bespin, BlueCube, the creation of SWT, Software Professional Careers and the STIC. AB felt like the Steve Ballmer of Slb. Exciting times.
The following years were a classic example of what happens when expectations are too high, vision too short and projects too slow: projects names changed (lift & shift, cirrus, ...), people stayed, MVPs made a lot of buzz but never saw the light of day and while the strategy concentrated on IT providers rather than on clients, the focus gradually shifted from lines of code to marketing slides. All the while, in a self-defense reflex, the organization become more autistic and less competent, priviledging loyalty over skills and self-prsise over critical thinking.
Eventually, DELFI, the culmination of all those efforts, was released one year ago in a grand, somptuous event.
One year is a long time in a fast-paced, digitally disrupted industry. Four years is an eternity in the world of Agile and DevOps.
Where do we stand now? Which new problems do we actually solve? Where is the revenue? And is it Slb revenue or is it Google's. What is the real potential? Could the stock-to-Brent ratio hint, in part, at the market's view on those issues?
How would a company stand if they started their digital journey now instead of 4 years ago? Did we gain or did we lose time and money while doing so?
Finally, is there any reason to be more optimistic about DELFI's second anniversary?
