Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

DSG is Trash

The reason so many geologists were let go is because of the software they use. If they were allowed to use something other than DSG they'd be able to show the company how great they are and would still be here. The software was holding them back! Good job IT.

I work for a different company and only check your boards for the humor. It's the tool. It's c-ap. They keep laying off the coders, so the improvement requests are lacking.

These things are chosen like this: DSG exec calls COP exec that he has known since college frat days and asks them to a golf game. DSG exec needs a new lake house and a huge, exclusive deal will seal it for him. COP exec steps up and does his buddy a solid and agrees it's a great product plus his buddy gets his too - win, win right? One phone call by COP back to his underling and basically it's done. And you can swap out COP for whichever company you like. Happens everywhere. But in the end the people that really need a tool suffer.

I'd have to agree with the OP that DSG leaves much to be desired. Its generally non-intuitive, and particularly unsuitable for onshore work in unconventional plays. It simply cannot do things that other less expensive geoscience software can do with ease. Wish we actually had some choice in the software that we use.

It’s not the tools. It’s the mechanic.

If you can’t use the company mandated software than good riddance, we have been using Landmark/DSG for years and there was onsite and phone support. You are either stupid/lazy or delusional.
