Cisco recruiting summarily rejects older white males without even a screening call

Despite having worked for Cisco and competitors and having current relevant experience this is the email that I get every time that I apply for a job at Cisco. No screening call, nothing. It happens over and over.

Hello Xxxxxx,

Thank you for your interest in the Marketing Manager position, Job ID 123xxxx.

We appreciate the time and effort you have taken in applying. While we regret to say that we won't be moving forward with you in this role, we do want you to continue exploring a career path at Cisco.

New positions are always opening up, and we encourage you to find other roles that match your skills and experience. You can even sign up for job alerts that will notify you the moment new opportunities that match your interests become available.

Please visit Cisco Jobs to view current opportunities. Thank you for being a part of the #WeAreCisco community, and for your interest in the role.

Regards,

I’m tinkering with the idea of leaving Cisco and starting a company that actually develops new things. As such, I would need experienced (maybe even old) innovators. Heck, they may even be male. And some might be white. But our engineers would actually develop things. Not attend a “_____ in technology” (where _____ = whatever your favorite pseudo non-biased, pseudo non-s-xist, pseudo non-ageist, 100% non-work horses—t affinity group is) event 4 days a week every week and get a trophy for it once a month.

What does everybody think of this idea?

I am neither old nor male and get this response to a lot of my applications. I think most reqs are already spoken for by the time they are sposted.

Not only that it seems to depend on if you belong to a diversity group or not. They post reqs in there for the people in the diversity groups to get first shot at the job. Most of the ones posted in the groups are taken and never show up on the Cisco website where the general public can see them and apply for the position.

Hiring managers already have a shortlist of candidates before the req is posted. It has more to do with who you know...
