Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Some of us are still hoping things will turn around

There are some of us here that have been around for a long time. We are hoping that things turn around. The bigger reason we stay though is we will be walking away from decent pay, a load of time off on the books, and mostly the devil you know vs the one you don’t. Yes maybe we will be laid off in a week a month or a year, and maybe we won’t. I personally feel like why leave for free when I can take a chance and try to ride this out as long as I can with my pay and time off intact. Might be a mistake or maybe a huge win if by some miracle things do turn around. I respect anyone that left on their own and feel bad for anyone that didn’t get a choice when they left. The honest truth is some of us are still holding out hope right or wrong. Been through bad times before and surely I will go through bad times again. Just my point of view so take it as you will. Just being honest about why some of us stay still

Unfortunately this company has way too many moving parts. TT seems like a cool cat but is way out of touch will the base. Town hall meetings seem like a good idea but I’m sure he will cherry pick the " positive “ locations for the venues. Pretty sure the " hostile “ environments will be strategically missed for good reason. He not a dumb guy, he’s just buying time and knows the lights will be turned off down the road. This company has made some bad decisions on what companies to acquire which shows on the balance sheet. Pretty amazing how a CEO can remain in that position with his track record, can’t believe the board of directors haven’t asked him to step down yet. Oh yeah , he’s on the board.

You deserve it to yourself to find something better. I quit today. I couldn’t be happier already.

I am hourly.. maxxed out at the top of the scale for my position. I received the generic email that I would be getting an increase. Later, no increase in wage. Was advised that the email was only intended for those who were not topped out. In my area, I am receiving a decent wage but as indicated above, the cost of living is still going up, while I am stuck here. I would have to drive 75 miles to another area to make what I am now.... without the PTO, vacation, sick that I have built up... with additional travel expense. I hope things do turn around. There are a lot of people that pay bills, feed their family, and try to entertain retirement from a Windstream salary. Yes, it is very discouraging to read about Tony's family vacation while I can only dream of that for my family. I wish they would think about the affects on the rest of the workforce when they make the decisions for Windstream instead of padding their pockets or funding their trips.

"Some of us are still hoping things will turn around"

Too late. Get out. Whatever the company ends up as, it won't be as you remember it. It will be carved up like a Thanksgiving Turkey. With the corporate VP's clueless on how to run the business, there is no way it can turn a consistent profit AND continue to attract more customers and stop the mass exodus of customers fleeing to cable/wireless. The company is just too bloated with executives that don't do anything. A leaner, more cash-making company will probably emerge from all this mess down the road, but it won't look anything like it is now.

And this new company will have a better, more efficient leadership team in place that have telecom knowledge. But this is all still down the road, for now still a lot of sadness as the company goes through the final gasps of what it once was with the current leadership saying anything and everything to get a few more dollars in their pockets before they flee.

The eventual remains of this company will probably be bought up by other companies.

Good luck

The package is half what it used to be...nothing spectacular. If you could get a job making what you do now...and one that actually gave annual raises...you woul be a fool not to take it. I’ve heard from a reliable source that raises are gone. If you can’t be promoted, you are where you will always be. You might be ok with that. Not me. Just because TT doesn’t think we deserve raises, doesnt mean the cost of living won’t continue to increase. How long are you willing to take that as ok?

The "devil you know is better than the devil you don't" argument assumes that everything else out there is a "devil" too. This is just patently untrue. You deserve something better. Go out and find it! I left WS several months ago after being there 11 years. There are some AMAZING companies out there with bonuses, benefits, great coworkers, and an awesome culture that are just dying for the skills that WS employees possess. Cheers!!
