I've heard Nokia is planning more layoffs and that California will be hit hard sometime next month.
The guy who told me this has been wrong before, so I'm hoping somebody here knows more about this (or can hopefully tell me outright this is not true.)
I'll appreciate any info on this.
I worked for AT&T/ALU/Nokia for 27 years, and with the exception of the early AT&T and Lucent spinoff days, this place s---ed. Salary was ok, bonus s---ed, and stress was too high. I started to get overtime the last few years, then i left and will never work in Telecom again. In the USA, they say diversity is good, but it also destroyed the culture that brought us the Lucent Spinoff. Many overseas workers who came to the USA because of all the hype of working for Lucent actually destroyed the creativity culture and the company. Thanks.
If you know any Motorola guys in your facility, just ask them what happened when Nokia bought Motorola.
It is Nokia, of course more layoffs are coming silly!
just a side note, searching for WARN may not tell you everything, bec some employers require (as part of the severance package) that the laid off employee to not file for unemployment until some date in the future after the actual layoff, so as to not increase the employer's unemployment insurance premium.
I think California might have a law that all companies have to report layoffs in the WARN notice. Google search NOKIA and WARN and California. See what comes up. I think the companies have to report layoffs 30 or 60 days in advance.
Time to look for a new job outside of Nokia. Ericsson is hiring.
This my own personal opinion -- With the target to cut cost of $1.2+ Billion Euro's by end of 2018 - YES, more layoffs are coming. Just do the math.
