Next leader likely from QCOM, sad sad

Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm's current president, and Anand Chandrasekher, a former Intel and Qualcomm executive, are now up for consideration as the successor to former Intel CEO Brian Krzanich, The Information reported Wednesday, citing a source briefed on the matter.

Amon and Chandrasekher, who left Qualcomm in May, have joined a list of external and internal Intel CEO candidates that includes current Intel executives Navin Shenoy and Venkata Murthy Renduchintala, as well as former Intel executives Diane Bryant, Renee James and Stacy Smith, The Information said. Pat Gelsinger, another former Intel executive who is now CEO of VMware and No. 1 of CRN's 2018 Top 100 Executives, is also under consideration but has already ruled out the move.

Murthy was mentioned? Ugh.

@izkh is spot on. AC would appear regularly on Curcuit holding up a Intel processor-based cell phone that he never got into production. So why would Intel bring back a serial failure when they already have enough failures in company now?

A factor to consider, the negative character and personality traits of certain groups of the work force at Intel have contributed to the negative condition of the business.

For those who don't know already: QCOM is a licensing company, aka a patent troll. Their engineering part is just for show. The company's founder family toys with these CEOs like new pets. The only reason I can gather from BOD's QCOM fetish is these "candidates" are all house trained already. The problem of that is they will all be kung-paoed by Lisa Su in no time.

@1ixe - Exactly! Why the QCOM degree? I thought the future was Server? And why isn't a process guy/gal from TSMC or GF or Samsung in the mix?

I remember AC back in the day, both as the Mobile guy and Global Sales Exec. He wasn't exactly a sales guy, but he had the right amount of self-deprecation that allowed him some slack. I also ran across an old thumb drive recently that had one of his mobile presentations from over 10 years ago. Intel will NEVER get mobile right.

Yeah, it's sad the BoD is still obsessed with Q after they beat them in mobile, 7-10 years ago. That obsession is costing them the loss of the next "next big thing" in AI to Nvidia and Google, as well as the manufacturing process technology lead to TSMC and the foundries.

If these are indeed the candidates, they must be uncorking the champagne over at AMD, Nvidia, TSMC and Samsung right now.

The Intel candidates are the best that Intel can produce? Wow, that by itself is troubling. How can a technology company with the size, scope and expertise of Intel only have those few individuals to choose from? Very sad.

Kirk or Pat either of them are better than the rest of the bozos combined.

I recall AC, while at Intel, promising a mobile solution quarter after quarter, and nothing arrived. For the love of sweet Jesus, if the BoD reads this, lets not go backwards.

Kirk Skaugen is right candidate!

Seems Intel's main battlefield is datacenter and not mobile. Qualcomm might not be the right direction.

Nobody mentions Kirk Skaugen, who would make a great CEO akin to Pat Gelsinger. Hope the BoD chooses wisely, although not a lot of confidence while the dinosaur AB keeps running the show.

Don’t fill the position! Just a huge money grab anyway. Have the majority share holder step in. Then the company will see “results”. Business will right-side, believe you me.

AC would be an interesting choice. Former QComm and Intel exec. Left Intel when they didn't want to hear that the X86 architecture could not compete in mobile. Perhaps he would have enough anger left over to really shake up the company.

Terrible choices, although the Qcom execs, if selected, may immediately use their skills in layoffology.
