Big Brother Watching

Anyone heard of new monitoring software being deploy across all company computers? Rumor is they are looking for people who might be surfing to lay off. I know a lot of people stream music while working so I guess may have to get the old walkman out and start using that. Just wonder if anyone else is hearing this.

This is more than company monitoring. A co worker with no bones about hating the job and cant get the layoff, though volunteered for last 2 years, had her computer remotely taken over end of day, checking sent e-mail and internet search history downloaded to remote location and wiped out. 4 or 5of us watched this happening with minutes before most of us leave for the day.

Hello, every company monitors, it is a matter of whether they want to be hardcore or not, typically it's in whatever expectations you get every year on whether your allowed to surf on breaks and access Map Quest and Google etc. Some use it for tools to figure out how to operate test devices and things also. It comes down to Supervisor and or department approval really.

Besides with iPad and Smart Phones and other devices now it would be pointless to try to contain access, people will go there one way or another anyway. You just have to be smart enough not to do stupid stuff and go where you shouldn't.

You know all the replies are from people on pto Jeff. We ♥ CenturyLink

Every year or two this monitoring software comes up. They always have the ability to see what you are doing on your pc but with approx 50K employees I think they are more focused on trying to get the 2 companies combined. This sounds more like a manager/supervisor with poor management skills trying to scare his/her people. Get your work done and stay on work appropriate websites...common sense.

when I worked there we were told we could use Facebook because the company realizes that contacts are often found on Facebook .

You should be able to stream music while working. Folks that sit at a desk should not be affected if they are completing their work. The field may be a different story.

You aren't suppose to be using your laptop for anything but company stuff anyway. We had a termination involving that recently. It is in the tech expectations.

Haven’t heard of that but it doesn’t surprise me, anything they can utilize to reduce head count. Better tighten up your game or someone will loose their job over something stupid. Thanks for the warning ⚠️
