Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

I’m in my 50’s, a white male , who was told I was going to be rif’d. Married with two kids. Cannot afford to lose my job. Decided to take a different track. Being high performer wasn’t enough. My whiteness and s-xual was against me. Two weeks ago I told my manager I was transgender. I got promoted!

2 years stuck as a Veritude contractor...no raise, no sick time....seen some of the best folks laid off...company is so woke on diversity but won't give their second class Veritude a paid day off or medical benefits...great job for a young diverse fresh outa school...dead end for an older white male unless you are on the top

When I hear "11 years on the phone", honestly the first thing I think of is better brush up on those buggy whip skills too. It's okay to get old. It's not okay to get obsolete.

Are you referring to atp developers as incompetent?

So sad to give many years to a company and out you go. I guess if I had kissed a-- I would still be there.

I too got old as a white male. Fidelity will never recover. The once great company has been ruined by the lust for millennials.

You shouldn't have any problems being old if you are a VP or higher... I heard an SVP mention wanting interns and fresh college grads to be 'more integrated', and have more opportunities in a highly technical area. Groups with SMEs of 15+ yrs exp, and SVPs asking us to give interns who can't tell you the difference between a call and a put, more of our work.

I also have heard of HR talking to coworkers and gathering such statements.

This company will move you, ask you to take sacrifices, do more, and then drop you with no thought.

While I don't doubt that there is bias against older folk, Fido is no saint to younger employees either so it's really all across the board. I left a couple years ago, and all of my former colleagues/friends have now either left or are desperately trying to leave. We all reminisce about being grossly underpaid and laugh about how incompetent/toxic the tech teams were. Technology company my a-- hahaha. We all fall within that "millennial" target age group (25-35) that Fidelity seems so fixated on. Most of us have moved on to places that pay way more competitively and better foster an environment for long term growth.
