Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Morgantown, WV

Anyone know how safe the sears in Morgantown WV is? I dont work there but at another store in the mall. We have lost 2 anchors this year already leaving just sears and JC penny left. Curious to see which of those two last longer/ how bad our mall is going to get this year as we also lost 2 other stores this week.

Property lease info is available to anyone that has access to Connect. That store’s lease is up in 2019 and is not renewable. Maybe someone will change their mind, but don’t hold your breath.

About as safe as the Morgantown Kmart

OP here. Thats what I was thinking. I'm mostly curious cause I want to bring up to our owner about us moving but losing sears would probably force his hand.

If the mall lost two anchors good chance it’s a goner if leased. Lease terms often let others leave if an anchor leaves.

Sears and JC Penny will probably both be completely liquidating in the next year or so. If that happens and all the anchor stores are gone then the mall in Morgantown will be pretty much dead.

In the next five to ten years most analysts agree that 50% of shopping malls in the US will be out of business.
