Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

Be Prepared

I ran into an ex-Weatherford manager who I know well this week and we were discussing how things are about a year out from being released from the company - note here that I felt he was a good manager and looked out for his team. Anyway, he said things are going well and he actually thanks WFT for releasing him. WTH? He said he likely would not have left on his own even though he had offers but could not express why other than the fear of change.

Anyway, to the point of the post. The only thing he said he regretted was not being prepared. He walked out without his contacts and has had to sped considerable time rebuilding that list. He said LinkedIn has helped a lot but he wished he had backed up his outlook contacts.

Even if you like WFT and plan to stay, you never know what is going to happen. Be prepared and if you backup your contacts make sure you can read them and have the correct file type, outlook has changed over the years and how you did things in the past may not work now

Now go and get prepared

this should only apply to family and buddies that work there... who have no qualifications or education backing them... that are holding mid level management positions thinking they are the best and chosen ones. in reality they are not even fit for that job and people working under them don’t even respect them as there boss. the people who actually can work will have no problem finding but people like i mentioned will have problems looking for work. I personally know few of them.

I was walking down the street when some guy on the sidewalk asked me for some change. The guy was a wreck, dirty, stinking of urine, long beard, the works. As i was getting some change for him i recognised my old PL manager from Weatherford. I asked how he got into this state and he told me that he took redundancy and thought he would breaze into another job, and he did find another job on the oil patch. The only problem was his new outfit expected him to know his job and put in some long hours. Coming from Weatherford of course he just thought it would be business as usual, three hour lunch breaks, golf, hunting, filling in his expense account, and generally blaming everyone else for his shortcomings. So the new job came as a shock to him.

As i gave him a couple of dollars he begged and pleaded with me to try and help get back into Weatherford, to try and get a place back at the trough with all the other hogs.

Then he turned and wandered off mumbling to himself about how he was ruined, about how he missed being at Weatherford....."the gift that keeps on giving" as he put it.

Poor guy.

Looks like if Weatherford goes tits up, its gonna be a hard time ahead for the ex managers. Maybe flipping burgers would be an option, but then again im sure they could f..k that up as well.
