Thread regarding Riverbed Technology Inc. layoffs

I got laid off today!

From what I can tell about 7.5% of the sales force got RIFd. 75% of those let go in sales were technical sales engineers.

I am not sure about the RIF percentage in other areas of the company.

Decent severance package. Looks like 1 month severence for each 2 years of employment.

I knew something had to happen soon because of 5 years of stagnant sales/EBITDA in a strong market. Company completely screwed up the technology shift to SD-WAN and came to market too late with a sub-standard product.

Overall I am happy to be free of this company and to find the next big thing.

At SKO this year they spent $$$$, tried to motivate sales and talked about how great Aternity product is, and announced the partnership with Versa. The focus at SKO was on desktop management, and how Aternity can make wonders for this company. A complete shift from the company core products.

It was clear then and there, the company had lost focus. The dream of Next Best Thing was gone, it is now Next Big T–d. The management team is bogus, the focus is gone, the CEO is a joke and the company is just looking for someone to come buy some of the products and get rid of the leftovers. SH is still a great product, that needs to be focused on integrated as a software container-based solution, which can work on any SD-WAN or Melno/ZScaler integration.

Ocedo wasn't that bad. RVBD engineering management tried to stuff 20 pounds of baloney in a 10 pound sack. It's a small business product at best. The biggest problem was that Riverbed made its nut off of a product that, if it broke, it went into bypass mode and the customer didn't even notice. Then they bought an SD-WAN product and the Eng VP at the time decided to get rid of QA. When an SD-WAN goes down, even for a short period of time, you're not sending emails, making phone calls, or doing any business of any sort. It's quite noticeable. By the time they figured it out, it was too late. Things are better elsewhere, forget about a package and get out while the getting is good.

Layoffs done very quietly, no internal announcement, just 1:1 calls with manager on webex with HR and no clear reason given as to why? If RVBD wants to really address the stagnant sales, upper management of Sales should be RIF'd and new blood brought it. Might help if they would spend some money in marketing. If RVBD swims like a whale in the ocean, sharks (Cisco/ will turn the whale to a Carcass and feed on it forever).

Sorry to hear you got RIF'd. But hope you at least got enough of a safety net in the severance package to get you to the next gig.

Now we in Support are waiting for the other shoe to drop....

A surely poor email to wake up to..
