Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Start looking

People, please open your eyes and see the writing on the wall. There is no future at AIG. There are only more layoff and more layoff and more layoff until there is nobody left.

If you are not looking for a new job right this moment, I honestly don't know what you are doing.

I think people are just waiting to get RIF'd and have stared networking and looking. They want their severance. Although I know a few people have found new jobs and didn't want to wait around for the severance. I really fell bad because the morale is not good. It's not a good thing to be working under these conditions. It's not productive either

Back years ago AIG would be the company who would buy you. Now AIG shortly will be in a position to be the one being bought. They are not writing much new business in the Casuality Division so what next.

Yes start looking, but don't leave if you can hold out until you get your severance. Companies love to hire employees from AIG because they know how hard they work and if you have any time in at AIG they will hire you. They know if you worked at AIG, you can work anywhere.

Have you resume updated and start networking and looking. We all wish that the layoffs would stop but there is no end in site. Very sad. The entire company is going through a transition and it will be so lean and not like the AIG we knew.

In agreement with Start Looking, get out now, they're not showing you any loyalty, why should you? If you have less than a few years, your severance won't be much, a signing bonus elsewhere may be more lucrative and you'd be in a better environment without constantly looking over your back. I had a similar experience to the other author about layoffs and then finally a sell off too.

The employees (like myself) that have been with AIG a long time are waiting for the severance. If severance is not of a concern to you, I agree, begin looking for a fresh start elsewhere.

What is going on right now at AIG reminds me of when I worked for a company that started this same process. They laid off hundreds of staff little by little. They then hired temps and other 3rd party companies to make the bottom line look better for sale. They parted out sections of the company then sold the main company. I am not saying this is what AIG is doing...but...it is very reminiscent of what I experienced. I truly hope they stop the layoffs but I see no end in site.
