Thread regarding Sears layoffs

How long after the announcement?

Can somebody please tell me how long it takes from the announcement that a store is closing until it's closed?

I'm hourly, so if my store closes I'm looking at no severance. I'm just hoping I'll have enough time to find a new job while still working and earning something at least.

Most of the liquidations take three months. Occasionally it's done in two month though.

Our Sears store is liquidating right now. Originally they said at least 3 months when in actuality they have decided to close in 2 1/2 months with no warning. Get out and find a job now while you can in case they shorten your closing time too without warning.

Don't wait until they tell you that you're going to be out of a job. (I did. Big mistake). I hear great things about Costco. Look there.

Start looking NOW. You might find something. TJ Maxx, Kohls and Burlington Coat Factory hire for seasonal right now to get a jump on Christmas. If it works out for you and the store you can usually stay on. Targets are hiring too. Don't know if it's seasonal or regular but they start above minimum wage.

They always tell you what your last day will be. It is usually 3 months.
