Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

People making almost double in same role

Is this common? I know we aren't supposed to know our coworkers pay, but almost double??? Really? Been here almost 10 yrs and thinking it's time to quit just to get a raise...

Performance isn't the issue... Consistently receive 4s and 5s on reviews. No focal in almost 3 years. Execs promise them and pull the rug to "keep from having layoffs" while we still keep laying people off... Even heard the new Seagate University workers are being paid more than I am with ZERO experience right out of college. And I have over 12 years of experience and consistently over perform to my targets....

This entire thread is a bunch of fake comments. Why don't you WD trolls go back to your own board.

Too bad about your stock price. LOL. Looks like your entry into solid state was a couple years too late, and your MAMR is about to get HAMR'D. LOL.

I call BS on this one. " I was able to hire an intern and discovered that the intern rate was hirer than one of my top analysts who had been with STX for 6 years." An intern would not be anywhere near the grade level of the conventional definition of an "analyst". Either you are flat out making things up or skewing the definition of an "analyst" to fit someone performing a lower grade level of work.

Dude. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Learn how to be your own advocate. Sometimes you need to just talk with your manager instead of complaining on this board.

Exceedingly common - I was able to hire an intern and discovered that the intern rate was hirer than one of my top analysts who had been with STX for 6 years. I had recently taken over the team. She also had never been promoted , due mostly to frequent changes of her management team. I was p-ss-d and was able to justify getting her a mid year promotion and raise but only by highlighting a significant risk of her leaving!

I also found out that a man who took over a small portion of my duties as I took on more responsibilities and a couple of large projects was making $50k/year more than me - he was in a lower grade, non management position who was let go shortly after for not performing.

Oh yes. That's common at Seagate. The best strategy is in fact to quit and get rehired to get a raise to the point where you can't anymore. I did that. If you are a non-citizen, then yes you will make significantly less which is why you were hired in. Performance marks don't matter at all. It's about who is liked personally the best by 2-3 levels above you and they likely don't even know what you do. They will be happy if you just keep going as is. That's why you start doing applications and interviews and get them thinking about it. Never complain verbally though because it never will work. Just take actions and show by action as mentioned. Even be prepared to jump ship too for a while. Then if you want, get rehired in a couple years later for double the pay. I've seen it happen so many times.

Unfortunately, favoritism, cronyism, and nepotism exists as well.
