Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Don't forget within the next several days a lot of liquidators in the upper midwest will be looking for their next gig as Bon Ton stores are scheduled to close no later than next Friday. Many in PA ;)

The NE will be hit soon. Store closings have more to do with logistics (how easy and how far from a DC delivery is) than how much profit or less loss a store has. SHC is not renewing leases and they are closing any outlier stores too far from another store to make delivery worth it. That is why you are seeing the middle of the country closing and some of the outlier stores. The NE will get theirs toward the end of the year or early 2019 if we make it that far.

Northeast once again spared. Goes to show Pa stores are transitioning for the better. WRONG , there are only so many liquidators and they can only handle so many stores at a time , don't delude yourself into comfort

Just close the whole thing down, Not fair to employee's or customer's to keep doing these piece meal closings. Was a great place to shop catalog or in store. With the catalog experience should have been in front of online sales. Good luck to all!

Sears is effectively exiting Rochester, NY with this announcement. Last remaining store in region will be force closed by mall owner when it converts property to an outlet store format. Eastview was a prestigious location and in the Seritage portfolio. If any Sears was going to survive, it would have been this one. That is a clear sign store closures have little to do with performance. It is an orderly quiet liquidation.

The store in Los Angeles is part of a complete redevelopment into housing. Not really Kmart's decision to close. Lease was already expired according to one story.

When they closed the Bloomingdale Illinois store (across from Stratford square mall) nothing surprises me any longer. That was a nice Kmart store, bright & clean and decently stocked. It seemed like one of the better stores in the whole chain, in a busy, upscale area....

I guess NH, MA, CT and NY aren't in the "northeast?" hahaha

@ qyd No. It goes to show that SHLD is just not prepared to drop the guillotine hard on the NE and Mid-Atlantic yet. Gotta do this in waves so they don't overwhelm liquidators and cause regional panic
