Thread regarding IBM layoffs

ABN - Always be networking.

All jobs are temporary, there is no loyalty on either side. Recent studies show that up to 80% of employees are looking right now. Explains why some companies have declining sales and revenues.

Those at the top in cushy jobs won't know what to do when their chair is removed.

ABN- Always be networking.

In today's work environment your job is to learn, work hard, max out your 401K and leverage your experience ... to make more money elsewhere. It's that simple. YOU AND YOU ALONE ARE RESPONSIBLE TO MAP OUT YOUR OWN CAREER. You're loyalty should be centered around you're family and close friends. This is the white collar work environment companies have fostered. If companies aren't providing an opportunity to grow, they have only themselves to blame regarding the declining state of their products and/or services. This is the IBM of today and they're not alone. A fair number of other companies have similar work environments. I believe, in the not so distant future, a subset of these organizations will realize that they'll need to step up their game to retain people ... and that my friend will not happen because they received an injection of humanity; it will happen because their financial bottom lines have bottoming out.
