ConocoPhillips has shrunk from a global workforce of 19,000 people four years ago to just more than 11,000 employees now.

Bob Slydell: If you would, would you walk us through a typical day, for you?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah.
Bob Slydell: Great.
Peter Gibbons: Well, I generally come in at least fifteen minutes late, ah, I use the side door–that way Lumberg can’t see me, heh–after that I sorta space out for an hour.
Bob Porter: Da-uh? Space out?
Peter Gibbons: Yeah, I just stare at my desk, but it looks like I’m working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch too, I’d say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work.
Ah, the good ole days.
3xtx, I see. Captain obvious here, you may want to consider finding a new job. It's really not that hard.
3bhu, of course we’re still over staffed. Since the last few layoffs added to the workload of the remaining people we only work 13 hour days. Way over staffed. We should be working a minimum of 16 hour days while worrying about our jobs.
I am curious, is COP still an overstaffed company? I worked there several years ago in IT, after the split and it definitely felt that way at the time. Too many employees for the amount of work being done. I eventually left out of boredom. I know they've cut a lot of jobs since then, but if it's anything like my experience was I can understand why any consultants that come in would recommend cutting staff.
The article failed to mention Bakken as a core region. Time to restart the rumors that the entire Bakken Asset is being sold?
What will be curious to see is what a modest number of employees is...
and if they will layoff Managers/Directors/Supervisors or just cut into the workforce again..
When are they not preparing for job cuts? It would be news if they were not preparing for cuts and asset sales.
ConocoPhillips makes money by laying off people!! What a shame!! ConocoPhillips your day is coming to an end by renewable
I wonder if any other “major” is doing the same thing?, cause thelayoff site doesn’t show that!
The only Takeaway from the artical:
“She added that ConocoPhillips has been transparent with employees that modest workforce reductions in certain areas of the business may be necessary from time-to-time in order to operate more efficiently.”
What a world class company!
If you don’t get the shaft this round, there’s always next year’s round. Afterall, these layoffs will happen “from time to time.” smh
Fewer and fewer opportunities at COP now. I just can't see the career path in a shrinking company.
When it comes to taking care of it’s employees - COP is just awful. If you’re going to deep 6 all your good people - you have to assume they are going to either sell or merge.
Say it ain't so
