Thread regarding Barnes & Noble Inc. layoffs

What a horrible demise

I’ve been a B&N customer for many years. I’ve loved, stood by and supported the company for many decades. My children were raised in the stores, on storytimes and events. A treat for good grades was a book. Much to their happiness. ❤️.

In the past few months, I’ve seen the most amazing booksellers, get “ let go” for poor sales. These people weren’t just booksellers, they became friends of my now grown children. People that we visited because we loved their literary knowledge, and personal touch. The roots were these people. The people that made a difference in my family’s life. A few people I’m in contact with, still with the company are addicts of something because of the stress. I’ve heard stories of managers, never getting lunch breaks. I heard about an old manager I knew having multiple heart attacks. This is crazy. I’m very disappointed in everything with this company. My money is going to Amazon. My prayers and heart to the great people that seemingly gave their lives for an overworked, underpaid position. Only to be sh-- on. Shame on you, Barnes& Noble.

I did support Barnes& Noble for many, many years. I’ve also read articles about Amazon treating employees poorly. The difference is the convenience and price. Amazon is considerably cheaper. Now, they both treat people horribly. I have to save money.

I once had a choice to pay for incredible customer service, by actual book worms. I paid a little more. It WAS worth it. A lot of people did. I started as a customer on the east coast, currently on the west coast. I’m just heart broken for my life long friends. Sending my love to all of the employees. Most were held responsible for company failures, and a decline in retail. While Demos was raking in 2 million a year, if a read correctly.

They shut down our only local (within 200 miles) Barnes about 8 years ago. I thought they went out of business a few years later. You mean they are still around?

Post ID: @U8GO2g8...you are so ridiculous...if you care about people, you buy at Amazon? They treat employees horribly...read recent New York Times article....also, you are then partly responsible for the pink slips....fewer people buy at BN, the more employees will be let go....

There is no reason to visit B&N if all knowledgeable and experienced salespersons got sacked, you might as well order books online now. The last CEO has eliminated every unique selling point of B&N.

"My money is going to Amazon."

This is one of the prime reasons brick and mortar bookstores like B&N are languishing. Companies aren't in the business of charity- if their sales are shrinking they will downsize to cut costs.

By the way- you need to read up on how Amazon treats their workers if you think the grass is greener over there. It isn't by a long shot.
