Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

This is common phenomenon in EMC Bangalore. Techies are more political than technical

I dunno who these super techies often mentioned here. But since I relocated from Santa Clara to work in EMC CoE this has been my observation of last two years.

The techies are all politicians.

" That's why they are super techies. They can bend rules and get cabins allocated even though they are ICs. The senior techie was a manager in EMC before he got forced to quit and join the infamous dell storage bdc team. He still acts like manager meddling into performance ratings and has say into everything other than technical matters. As far as technical things are concerned they aren't equivalent to even a junior software engineer in EMC. but one thing they are good at is PPT and obfuscating and confusing people. They have zero accountability and good at taking credit for others work and ideas. They ensure they weed out people who call their bluff."

Directly working for the client would be new norm for good developers in an year or so from now. And these these brokerage firms are going to suffer heavily. The problem with these brokers is that they've politicized the entire environment and formed a strong lobby. They just cannot tolerate good developers in their teams. In the first place they see that such an engineer is not recruited, and if one such engineer reaches there somehow, then they start their dirty game to weed that person out as soon as possible as he is a threat to their fake system that they've weaved over the years.

According to dell policies cabins are not allowed. It is a matter of time these structures will get knocked down in EMC to create more cubes for new joiners. BDC storage directors will have to find innovative ways to continue their old ways for snoozing, YouTube viewing and gaming.

I completely agree as someone said above "This should be referred to Ethics committee..." It is becoming worse by the day. I see some managers drawing paycheque months after months, bonuses and increments without contributing a word/,/. to the product and organization. In the first place what gave them the job at Dell? Who recruited them? Without proper skillset, qualification they have become manager at Dell/Dell-EMC. They behave as if they own the company. I guess course correction is necessary before it becomes too late.

That's the reason EMC was acquired by Dell.... Sadly Dell would also get this culture and politics infused... I see that directly working for the client/business is far better, you'll be paid for what you do... The harassment by these brokers is actually pusing good developers to directly work for the business. Take my word; all the services industries are gonna lose heavily within an year.

May be super techies at EMC COE have CB's approval for occupying closed door cabins.

Nothing unusual. I have spent 15+ yrs at EMC.

Techies who can code get to sit in open cubicles.

Techies who can't code and just do PPT slides are given closed cabins. This is after GM or Sr VP or CTO approval.

Who enables techies to politick? The execs are comfy in their ivory towers. They don't care or bother to go over one level down to find out what's really going on down there. They have a highly paid butler to tell them what is going on and sings lullaby. The whole system is built to reward this kind of behaviour - reap the glory of others who sow the seed. And superstar culture. One person gets rewarded handsomely for efforts of many and if there's leftovers everyone gets rewarded for the effort of few. Hypocrites.
