I totally agree. They should know how many vacation days but for salaried associates it's pretty much on the 'honor' system.... for hourly associates I think that they keep better accounting.... on my paycheck the vacation days number was never accurate.

What an absurd way of doing things. (Typical Sears...) HR should have records of that in-hand for everyone they plan to call in to the firing squad.

Regarding the fine print on the severance

  1. they can stop it at any time (the portion after the 60 days mandated by WARN)

  2. if you don't sign waver you cannot do early retirement - that can be bad for folks close to 55 + 20 or 60 + 10

  3. if you find a job during the severance then you have to notify them - that will stop the severance pay

  4. in Illinois u can file for unemployment during severance, the paperwork said Sears will not contest unless fired for cause

  5. you have 45 days to sign & fax the waver, make sure you follow up after faxing to make sure it was processed correctly by HR

  6. keep track of your vacation days used as HR will ask you how much was used and they won't let you go back to your desk to check... they will pay for accrued but unused vacation

  7. You get one hour to clear out your belongings and leave the premises

  8. Make sure you read the severance at least 2 or 3 times and that you understand everything. It says to contact an attorney but at this point it might cost several hundred dollars for them to review ...and the legal system works very slow... even if one tried to argue some of the provisions that could end up being expensive, I just signed and am putting this in my rear view mirror.

Was axed this morning. HA sales lead. Don't know if jewelry coordinator or AP was let go because I was called to the office first thing and didn't stick around to find out.
