Kmart revival

I get the sense that KMART has a possibility of revival. A focused, well stocked, profitable chain with deep discounts. Kmart is undoubtedly the king of the discounts, unbeatable on price and still with 350 stores spread across America. Brick and mortar integrated with online and store pickup. I noticed that very few of the recent past closures have been KMARTS. Has KMART been right sized? Is revival upon us? There is no question that Kmart is a much loved American icon. The SS Kresge legacy lives on!!

S.S. Kresge has been spinning in his grave for decades.

There already is a well stocked, unbeatable American icon, with store open close to you. It's called Wal-Mart!

It appears to be some obscure reference to a Grateful Dead cover player in comparison to Jerry Garcia. https://www.rukind.com/viewtopic.php?t=15148

This is as insane as someone saying John Mayer plays "just like Jerry" , There is no Kmart revival, and there will never be another Jerry . Please get your scripts filled before your K mart closes

iruz, your memories are tainted, because Kresges was nothing like a dollar store. For just a couple of examples, LED watches back in the 70's that sold for over a hundred bucks, and a full cafeteria and grill. I don't recall anything like that at your dollar store...

OP, Kmart Australia, which is owned by Wesfarmers, is the only real successful Kmart in the world. The Wesfarmers group has done a better job with the Kmart brand than Sears Holdings Corp.

Kmart will be revived as a third-rate Chinese e-tailer, peddling cheap makeup, toys, electronics, novelty items, car accessories and apparel.

Tmart comes to mind >> www.tmart.com.

I can save over 100% at my local Kmart over my local Walmart.

How?

The local Kmart closed in March and there's not another one open for business within 50 miles.

Therefore , I don't spend a dime there.

I'm with you OP, I think you're on to something. Kmart will make a huge comeback in the coming years. All these negative people on here will eat their words....trust me. I looooove Kmart!!!...I see so much savings when I go there. I shop there at least 2-3 times a week and I'm always shopping the online deals....way better than Amazon or any Walmart online experience. By my calculations my savings shopping there is at least 25% monthly....love, love, love it there!!!

See how easy it is to make crap up on the internet. Kmart is dead, get over it. Haven't been in a s___hole Kmart in over 10 years....and hated it even then. Stores were falling apart...prices ringing up wrong at the register...having to wait 20mins for someone that hates their job tell me it was in the wrong spot. How's that my fault? Clothes racks look like I'm at a thrift shop...all mixed together. Yet all the Steelers and Nascar car shirts are one rack....yeah that's what I'm looking for. I really need a Richard Petty Daytona 500 championship tee or some knock off rubber Crocs that smell like they were made from a Chevette's spare tire.

I'm old enough to remember Kresge's stores. Think Family Dollar. They're making a go of it, too bad Kresge's didn't stick around long enough for that style of store to be in vogue again.

Oh leave him alone. He's obviously lonely and needing of attention. It's unlikely he will get well, but you can help him out by making himself feel useful and knowledgeable.

Of course people could have said the same about Walmart in 1962. Oh yer of little faith!! Do you think Sam Walton had the resources, buying power, or margins of S S Kresge in the 60s?

SHLD overhead is over 30% and Gross Margin is under 20. Competent retailers have overhead below 20, and margins over 30. There is over a 20 point profitability gap between them and Walmart and others. It would cost 10s of billions to invest in infrastructure to close that gap, but they won't have enough stores to buy efficiently. Game, set, match Walmart.
