I hear the Toy Stores are closing. What are your thoughts on this?

agreed. Its going to be an interesting example of how companies (unlike mattel who's been late to the party) adapt to the online experience to break new products that amazon and online retailers alike won't touch because they're untested with the public.
Tons of brick and mortar stores are dying. I believe this has a lot to do with Amazon. The way people shop is changing. Yes, less children are playing with toys so Mattel may have to shrink and change, but it's not like kids have quit playing with toys.
San Bernardino, Ft. Worth, and Wilmot all closed on June 6. http://www.matteltoystore.com/locations El Segundo and Middleton are still open. Have not heard they are closing. I thought they did well and were a great way to liquidate. Must be part of the "structural simplification."
If anything, Mattel is currently looking to expand their brick and mortar retail footprint.
If they lose money, which they probably do, then out they go. Probably better for the balance sheet to donate that leftover stuff, or write it off as a loss, than to employ people to stand around waiting for someone to come in and buy something, which doesn't happen enough.
Nonsense. All our misfit toys that don't sell at Dollar stores come back and wait in our toy store to die.
It’s probably bc no one wants to the crap products we make.
