Does anyone have factual info that there will be layoffs today or is this speculation? i'm currently employed (newly hired, in the last year). Why would they hire me as a hardside sales rep, if they planned on laying off so many employees? I have a daughter to look out for, can someone please confirm if this is really going to happen (firing US HE Sales reps/managers), or if it's all rumors that are starting to run rampant?

To whomever thinks management didn't know, the RMs have known about this for 4 weeks now.
Pearson has been a class action law suit waiting to happen for YEARS.
As far as the company making millions- it's been in the tank for years. It's why everyone has NEGATIVE sales goals. The only thing that has kept Pearson afloat is selling off their profitible parts, Financial Times, Penguin, etc. Not sure what they will do when there is nothing left to sell. Because they certainly are not selling textbooks.
People can really thank ES, TB, JF for running this company into the ground.
"Layoff?" "Check with your DM/RM"? Not if they were all told they don't have jobs after making the company millions over successful year over successful year. No explanation, "territories eliminated" yet they exist now with someone else slightly adjusted and in many cases less qualified. Is that legal?
My wife got laid off today, for us, it does not get any more real.

Definitely not a rumor. Check with your DM or RM, they may have gotten 'the call' and know who else from your team is being laid off.

Your grapevine is broken if you didn’t know about the layoffs. Align yourself with people who don’t have their heads buried in the sand. More importantly, go work for a company that values its non-executive employees.
You should call your teammates. Odds are your regional manager has been laid or has changed. District Managers and Reps are today. You more than likely will not be a hard side rep anymore.

There are layoffs last week, continuing on this week and through the month of June
I used to work for Pearson, and I was a mentor for a newly hired rep in soft side. (She was there 4 months) and layoffs happened.
However, Rumors are simply that, rumors.
Hang in there, stay positive. If you made it through the intense hiring process for Pearson you can land something else if layoffs do happen.
